Getting older can be terrifying. I’m scared of turning of 23. (I know, I know that’s not old at all, but I really miss college okay!) I think part of the fear comes from this idea that when you get older you become bogged down with responsibility making life, well, less fun. You’re suppose to age gracefully, becoming someone’s cute little granny sitting in a rocker smiling and watching you’re programs on Lifetime.

But I say forget that, I want to grow old and be a badass like Mamika!

More than just a nickname, Mamika is an incredible project that grew from the relationship between French photographer Sacha Goldberg and his adorable Hungarian grandma. After her fourth husband died, Mamika was feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, Sacha asked Mamika to pose for some portraits. At first she was reserved, but that didn’t last long. Soon she was dressing up in wacky outfits and striking some outlandish poses. (Think washing a window with a tiny dog and flying on a treadmill)

Mamika is a role model to women of all ages. Not only has she shown getting older doesn’t mean the fun is over, but she proves everyday is a chance to be brave, even if that means throwing on some superhero spandex and makeup.

On days when I’m feeling too bored or self-conscious to stray from the blacks and whites of my closet, I’m going to ask myself what would Mamika do? Then I’m going to throw on my red cowboy boots and help little old ladies reach the hard candy and cream of wheat from the top shelf at the grocery store (I’m tall and those are real life examples) because Mamika has shown me that there’s a hero in all of us, whether we’re almost 23 or 93.
