So sorry to push vegetables on you while you’re surfing the net, but I just want people to get as jazzed on kale as I am because it’s a delicious food. There have already been some great recipes using kale from the HG writers, like this one, this one and this one, but here are some even more amazing reasons to be like “Oh, hey kale, I like you so much, I want you to be my valentine.”
2. Kale is a Winter Vegetable: The summer is certainly one of the best seasons for fresh produce. The winter can be limiting, but not when you have kale, which is at its peak of deliciousness during the coldest months. Go put on your Uggs or Sorels (because apparently they are trendier) and grab some kale!
3. Kale is Easy to Cook with: It cooks so fast! You can eat it raw, sautée it with olive oil, garlic and shallots in a pan, put it on pizza, throw it in soup or bake it brushed with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Also, so many other things. (ie. make a kale B.L.T …B.K.T…that’s what’s up.)
4. Kale is Fancy, Yet Accessible: Do you think kale is too fancy for you? Well, if you do, you’re wrong. You’re a princess and in this post, princesses deserve kale. Get it at your local market, grow it yourself, pick some up at Whole Foods or my favorite, at Trader Joe’s, pre-washed and pre-chopped in a bag…work DONE!
5. Kale Makes a Great Gift: C’mon, it’s unexpected! We’re living in a Pinterest society where everyone has the same stuff “pinned” all over the place and all foods are labeled “sooo yummy!!” Who would expect kale to be inside a beautifully wrapped birthday gift? Not me and I wouldn’t hate it, either. Just “pinned” it to my “gifts I want” board.
