ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day
Annie Stamell

Disclaimer: This Item of the Day is not cheap. And while I would love to offer up an affordable treat for you guys, I instead present one that is… aspirational? Okay, fine, it’s expensive. Like, really expensive. It’s 98 pounds. Pounds as in the British currency that is currently kicking our currency’s butt, so it’s coming in at around $130 (using absolutely zero math, so don’t quote me on that). Okay, so maybe for a nice bag, that’s not too crazy. I mean, what do I know about these things? So yes, it’s pricey but it’s aspirational — we all aspire to own such a beautiful thing!

The first time I saw a Cambridge Satchel was a little over a year ago when the mainstream fashion scene really got into pairing neon with neutrals. I’ve been a neon aficionado since I decorated my first Caboodle with a dozen Lisa Frank stickers, so the second I spied that shocking orange bag, I knew I had to have one. I don’t have one yet, but one of these days, you guys? I will! (See? Aspirational!)

Now the Cambridge Satchel is popping up everywhere and in all sorts of colors, textures and materials. HelloGiggles’ very own Zooey Deschanel snapped a pic of her and a friend each with a monogrammed one (true confession: I love monograms). In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if after reading this post, you start spotting them everywhere! So get ahead of the trend and pick up yours today. Just be prepared for these pretty bags to cost a pretty penny.

  1. Does anyone know could this bag be used as a laptop bag?

  2. I absolutely love my Cambridge Satchel that I got as a Christmas gift this past year. Mine isn’t neon, but it’s dark brown leather with a canvas front and I think it is the greatest thing on this earth. I like to use it as a chic bookbag while studying in London this semester. I know my mom got it on a modcloth sale so it was not as expensive so keep your eyes pealed!

  3. My bf got me the green one for my bday. Love it!

  4. I have been drooling over these for so long.

  5. I have wanted one of these bags for years now and I have scoured ebay looking for cheaper versions. Then, as if by fate, I was at Target a few weeks ago and spotted a neon yellow satchel that looks very similar to the Cambridge Satchel, for only $25! Needless to say I now own one and use it daily.

  6. I saw them at Bloomingdales the other day and seriously considered buying it, but I’m the kind of girl that goes in and out of her purse a LOT and those buckles are such a pain in the butt to open and close!!!!!

  7. I have one, one of the biggest ones and I use it every day for school… It is amazing. Total love affair with my chunk brown cambridge satchel.

  8. i totally ordered one. couldn’t help myself.

  9. saw that piz of zooey and I wanted to know where she got it from. I know lots of other people posted about the same thing thanks for sharing I am getting one now.

  10. Secret: Call The Cambridge Satchel Company. Ask them what they have on clearance, a lot of times they have bags with “defects” that they will explain to you in detail over the phone. I have the Neon Orange and I absolutely love it. I carry it to work every day. My “defect” was a black mark approximately half of a centimeter in size INSIDE the flap. [This is an indication of CSC's dedication to quality, they won't put it out there if it's not perfect] Nobody even knows it’s there. This tiny mark warranted a considerable amount off the original asking price. You’re welcome giggles. xx

  11. I first saw these on ModCloth then moved here to the UK and saw them when I was in Cambridge – go figure, right? Beautiful, quality bags! I have definitely considered getting one.

  12. i saw similar bags at H&M this past week for only $24

  13. Both Target and Old Navy have similar (not the same level of quality, obviously) bags in those neon colors right now for about $35. Get to it, ladies!
