ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day

Remember when perfume wasn’t a body mist sold in a plastic squirt bottle? It was an elegant fragrance that sat on a glamorous woman’s vanity table. Perfume came with tasseled pumps and crystal bottles and the sense that you were cosmopolitan and worldly just for being around such a lovely smell. It was all so old school glamour. It was fantastic.

Tocca’s Eau de Parfum in Stella makes me feel that way about perfume again.

It comes in a gorgeous globe bottle that feels like Lady Holliday’s Fabulous Baseball Diamondwhen you hold it in your palm.  The fragrance itself is a mix of crisp citrus and sweet floral fragrances. It’s not too overwhelming, but it will last on your coat or scarf for more than a day. I know this because I don’t actually own a bottle myself. I just sneak into C. O. Bigelow’s every time I’m running around the West Village for free comedy shows and then stealthily act like I’m there to buy something, when really I’m just there to spray some Tocca’s Stella perfume on me. Why? Because I’m a scruffy little nerfherder who can’t afford it. In a weird way, that only seems to make it smell better when you catch a whiff of it lingering on your scarf the next day…

Like I said, it’s old school glamour. So gorgeous and out of reach… I love it.

  1. Ah! This is my favorite perfume and I always did the sneak into C.O. Bigelow, Anthropologie, or Sephora at least a few times a week. Finally my mother told me that I was a crazy person and put it in my Christmas stocking last year.

  2. I love Tocca! My fave is Florence. I ran out though and am too poor to buy more. I guess that makes me a “scruffy little nerfherder” as well (GREAT line btw!). :)

  3. i was hoping this would stay secret for a while so no one would smell like me, but I guess you can’t stop the word from spreading about such a lovely line of perfumes!

  4. “it’s old school glamour. So gorgeous and out of reach…” Loved it, and totally related to it!! Not so many old school glamour around these days but oooh when you come across something that belongs “there”… HEAVEN!! :)
