Robert Rave and his mama, Jane Rave, wrote a book called Conversations and Cosmopolitans: Awkward Moments, Mixed Drinks, and How a Mother and Son Finally Shared Who They Really Are, about how they became even closer through booze-fueled conversations. I couldn’t relate to it or love it more.
You will completely cherish this memoir if you were raised with a young mom or even if you know a young mom that’s doing her best to live and learn while raising another person.
The story starts with Robert coming out to Jane and his father about his sexuality via snail mail and continues on into account after account of the two of them oversharing details of their lives freely while toasting over cocktails. Topics include everything from Jane’s lack of knowledge on the gay lexicon to Robert’s manscaping and Jane’s tried and true advice on love (“Men are jerks.”)
This was a laugh-heavy and meaningful read for me, and I’m sure you’d feel the same. I’d strongly recommend you pick up a copy for yourself, your BFF and your BFF’s mama.
