ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day Jennifer Still

I often struggle with beauty products – most of them just have too many ingredients and feel heavy or just downright gross on your skin. I find this to be the case particularly with soap. Sure, the big-name brands are all starting to offer “natural” versions, but they still seem to leave a filmy residue on my skin and I just can’t get down with it.

As you do when you’re looking for homemade versions of things you could never put together yourself, I went to Etsy and it was not long after that I came across the Rocky Top Soap Shop. Owned by coastal Maine resident Tony, who creates the soaps himself using the cold-press method, I think I can stop looking for anything better.

Rocky Top offers everything from a coffee shampoo bar and shaving soap to probably the best exfoliator I’ve ever found, The Grit, which contains coffee grinds, activated charcoal and earth clay. I use it every day in the shower and my skin – always dry this time of year – has never felt better. Speaking of skin conditions, the Cambrian Blue bar is perfect and was formulated especially for those with eczema and psoriasis.

If it’s something a little more subtle you fancy, the Reds & Roses set may be up your alley along with the Tea Soap set.

In addition, the ingredients used in all of Tony’s products are completely natural, unscented and contain no artificial dyes, fragrances, etc. Everything is made using only oil, lye, shea butter and other all-natural ingredients (like the clay listed above). Amazing!
