ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day: Givenchy Rouge Interdit Magic Lipstick Jennifer Still

I’m going to be honest: this is a bit of a splurge purchase. At $32 for a single tube of lipstick, this isn’t for the casual makeup wearer. However, if you’re obsessive about cosmetics like I am, this is a definite must buy.

Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit magic lipstick – the official color is listed as Noir Révélateur 62, which is pretty fancy – is, well, actually magic. While the lipstick itself looks black, it applies sheer and then works with your body’s pH to turn a slightly opaque berry shade that’s just right for you. A lot of the reviews describe it as “your lips but better”, and that seems pretty accurate to me. I wear this when I want a little something less “out there” and it’s BEAUTIFUL.

Also, I can’t say enough for Givenchy in general. Their lipsticks are my latest obsession (Guerlain’s Meteorites being my previous obsession – makeup is the one thing I’m not a cheapskate about) and for good reason. They’re all intensely hydrating, long-wearing, apply evenly and just look GOOD. I’m pale and cool-toned, so a really subtle berry like the one I get from this is perfect.

You might recognize this as a bit of a dupe of Givenchy’s earlier release, Liv’s Lips, which was endorsed by Liv Tyler. Same product, in essence, with the same effect. You can grab it at Sephora for $32. I promise you won’t be sorry! Plus, if you’re a VIB or Beauty Insider, you can get 15% off starting tomorrow (this applies to their whole site). I’ll have to stay away… I might be tempted to buy a back-up tube!

  1. This seems really similar to Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Cherry. It looks black in the tube, but applies a sheer, universally-flattering berry that can be layered for a more opaque color. Bonus: It’s half the price of this Givenchy lipstick.

  2. Ooooh!
