Milk and Cookies and an Instant Movie Instant Movie: ‘Beetlejuice' (1988) Myrna Valadez

Growing up on television is an amazing thing. I have early and fond memories of films, some very dear to me like this week’s Instant Movie pick: Beetlejuice. Yes, I was exposed to Tim Burton at a very early age (explains a lot?) and I’m proud to say I’ve been a fan ever since. Between Beetlejuice and Pee Wee Herman, I was practically raised by Time Burton! I know I can’t be the only person who loves Beetlejuice, so join me tonight for a screening of Tim Burton’s finest work. Expect to find the unexpected and then some:

  1. I went through a goth phase. There, I said it – so I can relate to Lydia (Winona Ryder) and I sorta thought she was cool. Come forward if YOU were goth, too!
  2. The dance scenes AND the music! All I have to say is… DAY-O.
  3. Treat yourself to a film with an endless amount of imagination; it’s nice to escape reality and walk alongside ghouls and goblins.
  4. Frankly, we don’t see enough of Geena Davis anymore but she’ll always be just a play button away. Do it for Geena!
  5. And lastly, a rather young and handsome Alec Baldwin. He’s always been great.

Be ready to enter the land of the unknown. Make sure you bring a pillow and blanket. Milk and cookies wouldn’t hurt, either, because you’ll want to be comfortable when you enter the land of the dead once you say his name three times.

  2. I have told my husband (and multiple other people in my life) that I specifically credit Beetlejuice for a lot of my personality. I saw this movie very young and absolutely fell in love with the weirdness of this film.. and the rest is history..

  3. I did the goth thing, I’m still referred to as “The little Goth Girl” whenever I talk to my old high school buddies. I did goth in the best of taste:) Now I’ve settled into my own matured style, I alternate reading comic books and vogue:)

  4. Shake señora. I have the DVD. Love Tim Burton and Winona (and Geena). Beetlejuice was a bit grouse though. And the guy with the tiny head was so cool!

  5. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetle… Ok, I’m not that crazy, but I love this movie :)

  6. Love! Beetlejuice, Addams Family, Labyrinth and Legend (Featuring an adolescent and pre-couch jumping Tom Cruise) were a huge part of my childhood… (explains a lot, indeed).. and yes, I had a goth phase.. strangely enough no pictures remain.. lol

  7. I LOVE Beetlejuice! I wanted to change my name to Lydia when I was a kid :) I had the gameboy game and a board game type thing too.
