Teenage WastelandI Like Your New Hair, MileyMikaela Foster

A few days ago, Miley Cyrus cut her hair short. Really short. Was it for a movie, or was it because she just wanted to? Is it because she wanted to give it to cancer patients? Is it because Liam wanted her to? Regardless of why she did it, IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

I think her new hair is really cute, and so does she. Judging by her tweets and all her pictures, it seems like the happiest she’s been in a while. So why is everyone hating on her?? FIRST OFF, she’s Miley Cyrus, and she’s probably accomplished more in the last 5 years than you ever will be. SECOND, it’s her hair, and she can do whatever she wants with it. THIRD, she rocks it. So please… just stop. Please.

People are even saying she looks like Draco Malfoy… What the (insert swear here)?! Whoever thought that “insult” was going to be offensive was wrong, because Tom Felton is really hot.

I like her hair a lot. I think it suits her and I don’t think anyone should be allowed to judge her. I tried short hair a few years ago, too, and it was really bad… but hers is really good…. so I’m kind of jealous. And everyone else should be, too. She looks amazing. I’m not clear to why she has so many haters… she’s done some wild things, but she’s also an adult. So give her a break. I LOVE YOU AND YOUR NEW HAIR, MILEY!

Holy grammer batman! It’s weird this site lets published articles out like this. I guess it is not playing with the big boys (girls) yet.

First picture I saw of her new cut, I loved it immediately. Totally suits her. Brings out her features more!

Like your article and I like her new hair. Keep up the writing, sorry about the negative comments. I like your take on pop culture.

Look at the outrage when Emma Watson (Harry Potter) cut her hair into that beautiful pixie cut! People were so offensive in their comments – looks like a boy, omg Hermoine! etc. People have this perception in their head of how these people need to look. Can you imagine the horror if Jennifer Aniston just decided to go pixie-short? The humanity!!!

Short hair on women can be very trendy and CLASSY.

Miley is experimenting with her hair style and okay, not everyone is going to like it but to bitch about her looking like a ‘nazi youth’ etc. is just immature. Going short for the first time is very liberating! She looks like she’s chuffed to bits so yay, go Miley!!

Criticism is great. It’s a big part of what will make Mikaela a killer writer one day (and you’re certainly on your way! You’ve got sincere opinions and lots of guts. I wish I had your courage and drive at your age!)

With that being said, there’s a fine line to stray from criticism. Opening a statement with “Oh honey…” isn’t acceptable in today’s workforce because it’s a clear insult to the power of a woman. So why would it be acceptable on a website DESIGNED for support to your fellow woman? It’s a hard world out there blah blah… This is a friendly community. And you’re talking to a 13 year old. Can’t we all discard the “harsh realities” and snyde arguments over literal and misunderstood wording, and political relevance, and recognize what’s going on here? A really ambitious young girl did a positive piece. I’d choose this over another ill informed right wing nut job piece about Obama not having a birth certificate.

    agreed! she looks awesome !!!!!

Mikaela, you are awesome. I totally agree with you on this too! She’s got a look and she’s going for it and she looks great, and I think it’s wonderful to see a young celebrity being so happy to really be herself and not a pre-fabricated starlet.

And don’t worry about the haters of this article! Personally, I’m jealous of how much YOU’VE been able to accomplish at just 13! You’re great :)

Whoa is this yahoo comments because its getting pretty aggressive…ladies let just jest about her hair

Mikaela! I love reading your articles because you are a very bright, funny young girl! Don’t sweat the ‘haters’ and random influx of negativity. Maybe it’s the heat? I’m a Portlander too and find myself a little grumpy with this hot weather :)

What up with the negativity? :(

I don’t see why people feel the need to tell Mikaela that she sounds like a kid, or that she sounds her age as an insult. She’s thirteen and so it should be expected that she would sound thirteen, and there is nothing wrong with that. She’s just doing what she loves and not trying to be anyone else or act like she’s older than she is. Good authors have voice in their writing and as a thirteen year old girl, Mikaela’s voice makes it sound like a thirteen year old girl wrote the article. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Keep it up Mikaela!

Who cares what she did to her hair?

There is a presidential election coming up, a war going on, and America is in debt. I think we all have greater things to worry about.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000072075927 Kyisha Thompson

Then why did you reply to this post?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=515973237 Karis Isolde Funk

Yes, There’s always a million other and more important things to think of, but why be serious all the time? Let people give a poop what she does with her hair, as if their opinion is gonna make a difference. Lighten up.

The only thing I don’t like about this is the color. It’s TOO blond for her coloring. In all of the pictures I’ve seen since she had it done, she looks washed out. If it were a warmer blond, I’d absolutely love the look because the cut suits her.

People just like to hate on people, probably because they are insecure about themselves and it makes them feel better. Idiots. I hope she ignore the negativity.

I just want to say that I think you’re a really great author, especially for your age. This particular post isn’t my cup of tea, but I enjoy the good vibes you’re sending out. You are getting a lot of feedback/comments, some good, some negative. Just take it all with the grain of salt, and keep doing what you’re doing. I can’t wait to see how you progress. Also I really enjoyed your “My so called Life” post.

    To the negative commenters:
I believe the point that she was trying to make was that she liked Miley’s style, and she believes in personal expression. Maybe one sentence in her post came out in a way she hadn’t intended, but the fact that you’re giving her flack for being her age shows poor character, especially since she is quite articulate for a 13 year old.

If Miley is being true to herself, then I think the hair is great. I just hope, as she breaks away from her old image, that she doesn’t lose herself going to far in the opposite direction.

No offense, but you can kind of tell your age. Not only did you use the term “haters”, which no one uses in the real world, but I don’t think you thought your side through very clearly. You said “she’s an adult, it’s her hair, she can do whatever she wants with it.”. Yes it is. And people can say whatever they want about it. It’s freedom of speech. Just like you have the right to say what you just did, (although in my opinion, not very well thought out and someone childish) and just like I can say what I’m saying now. Not only that… but this haircut is horrifying. It looks like a blind person cut it.

To YOU is ugly. You know, not everybody has the same taste on things. So even if you don’t like it (and you can have your opinion, nobody is saying its right or wrong), that’s not the absolute truth, because there isn’t one. And she never said that people can’t express what they think, but she is pointing that people shouldn’t be so harsh about that kind of thing. Everyone has feelings, and maybe we should try to be more polite with each other and not bash on anyone for dumb reasons, even if they are celebrities. Im sure I wouldn’t like that people were mean to me because of who I am. Its hard being judged all the time.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=581486880 Becky Watkins

I’m not sure where this fantasy world is that you live in where people say haters, but in the real world, at least in my nick of it, people do say haters. I say haters. And I’m twice the author’s age, so I don’t think age has any thing to do with it.

Freedom of speech is a legal issue. They are legally free to say whatever they want, but all humans should be respectful towards each other. I don’t know why people think it’s okay to go all crazy on bloggers and celebrities. As if they aren’t real human beings with a soul. Especially when they are young. Especially 13. Being a teenager is hard. Even if they seem strong on the outside, it really does affect them, whether they realize/believe it or not.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People can think it’s ugly, but that’s no reason to be mean. Would you say such things to a person’s face? Besides a close friend who asks you to be honest? Have you ever been on the receiving end of the remarks that Miley is getting. It doesn’t matter who the person is, we should always practice kindness

I’m in 8th grade. I don’t have my MFA. If you expect my articles not to be somewhat childish, you’re setting your standards too high for me. I’m sorry that my article wasn’t adult enough for you, but if you’re looking for an article written by an adult then you probably shouldn’t be in the category “fresh giggles”.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=510454184 Emily Huth

Why does it matter what her age is? I don’t understand the need to debate over this. I’m sure it doesn’t make the author feel good and she was just trying to put out good vibes in to the world, which this comment section is severely lacking.

Well, she is in the headlines all the time, her name is in that “famous” category. Everybody judges famous people, get used to it, guys. We all know this. For Miley, I’m pretty sure she’s saying to herself, fuck the haters, too. She’s obviously her own person. Oh, and yes, her hair is freaking adorable! I always wanted to cut my hair like that but I am pretty chicken shit to do something dramatic like that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=825423677 Jennifer Gonzalez

I LOVE her new haircut!! It’s very cute! I’ve always loved short hair, that’s why I recently cut my long locks to a short bob…and I love it!

Hey Mikaela, good writing! I really appreciate you sticking up for somebody, even somebody famous. It’s always easier for people to be negative and it takes guts to stand up. Plus, people thought enough about what you wrote to comment on it! Thought provoking! Way to go!
