How to Wear Red Lipstick Like A Boss! Courtney Leiva

Hey you,

I promised that I’d get over my dog-darned phobia of being ridiculously camera shy, so to kick off this red-lipstick filled post, here’s me doing my best Gwen Stefani impression and working red lips like it’s 1995 again.

Here's Courtney!

Here’s Courtney!

Now m’dears, red lips can say A LOT of things. “I love you.” “I’m totally fine without you.” And let’s not forget; “I’m a total boss, biatches.” To get your baddest lips on, trust these six red lipsticks to deliver high-def color and whole lot of attitude.

1. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in NSFW ($18, sephora.com)

I MISS my finger painting kindergarten days, so when I’m feeling a bit artsy, this 100 percent vegan lip tar has been my go-to choice for a deep brick red color. Be wary that a little goes a long way. Upon first use, a whole glob of it got on my teeth, (yikes!) so it’s best to use a makeup brush upon application. Otherwise, say hello to a deep, Marilyn Monroe red!

2. Inglot Lipstick #126 ($12, inglotcosmetics.com)

Yesssss! This is one kickass lipstick. Whenever I want to channel my inner Grace Kelly, ScarJo or Christina Hendricks, this is THE lipstick for the best retro-looking pout. Even Courtney Love would want it. Don’t let me forget to tell you how long-lasting it is. I put this crimson shade on at 10 a.m. one morning and I still looked like a starlet later that night.

3. Manna Kadar Cosmetics Lipstick in Russian ($21, mannakadarcosmetics.com)

So Rita Ora has been my spirit animal as of late. Not only does the British beauty have the whole blonde hair, dark eyebrows thing down pat, but she also wears the best shades of red lipstick. It’s almost like she was born with it on. Sigh..if only I was that lucky. For a pout like the “Radioactive” songstress, I always grab this tube of goodness. Not only does it deliver high-def color, but it goes on buttery smooth, unlike most matte lipsticks.

4. LUSH Liquid Lipstick in Ambition ($18.95, lushusa.com)

Now liquid anything usually irks me a little, (took me five years to master liquid eyeliner) so when I first got a glance of this bottle of liquid lipstick, I’ll admit that I was beyond scared. A foolproof applicator is attached to lid which is super handy so you really can’t mess up. Love two-for-one beauty products? Use this antioxidant-rich color as a cheek stain too!

5. FLOWER Kiss Stick High-Shine Lip Color in  Petunia Petals ($6.98, walmart.com)

Don’t worry, I wasn’t going to leave you without a budget find you’ll go totally psycho over. The adorable Drew Barrymore has created the FLOWER line full of inexpensive yet, fantastic working products I simply become a rabid dog over. Yes, the FLOWER BB Cream is taking me places but the Kiss Stick is off the hook!

6. Armour Beauty Nina Lipgloss ($21, armourbeauty.com)

No it’s not a fairytale. Corals really do combine the best of both worlds (orange and red, of course) to flatter all skin tones across the land. Enriched with yummy natural oils, stash this gloss inside that makeup bag right now!

7. vbeauté Lip Spread Color Gloss ($28, vbeaute.com)

Don’t know about you, but there’s just something about lip gloss that screams “OMG I’m totally hot!” Now, a little vanity never hurt anybody, so when you’re in the mood to show off, gloss it up with this sheer red for spot-on sex appeal.

8. Becca Ultimate Matte Lip Colour ($24, beccacosmetics.com)

  1. Hello! great article :) which color is the last product? is it in Adele or Josephine?

  2. Try Mac ‘Ruby Woo’ or ‘Lady Danger’. Ruby Woo is an orange red, very 50s and Ruby Woo is a darker red. Much more 40s but both a stunning.

  3. If you want to rock really bright red lips, as I do, you must try ‘Moulin Rouge’ by Make Up For Ever. Bought it at Sephora, it looks AMAZING with any skin tone. My friends and I (ranging from olive, golden, to pale complexioned) have all tried it and looked rad. It stays on all night, and retains a bright glossy look throughout the evening, even while I’m taking shots or sipping away at whiskey gingers. It should definitely be on your list!

  4. This post was beyond helpful! I have loved the crimson lip look for years but never really make it past my house with it on. What shade are you wearing in the pic? It’s beautiful!
