Although I’ve been a fan of Nikki Reed’s acting career ever since watching her magnificent debut in the film Thirteen (which she also co-wrote), seeing her red carpet style transform over the past few years has also been a treat. While some actresses often look über-glam at each and every event they attend, many of Reed’s ensembles prove she can successfully mix her casual side with celebrity chicness, which is great news for myself and others who might not always want to dress to the nines but still enjoy taking some style cues from our favorite celebrities. In other words, because Reed’s outfits tend to feature pieces that are simple and stylish (and not too fussy or extravagant), they’re ideal sources of inspiration for creating everyday looks that are more relaxed and right on trend. Naturally, I searched through some of her past get-ups for the purpose of finding comparable and less expensive items for recreation, so sit back, keep reading and soak up a bit of this laid-back fashionista’s style.
Reed’s first look doesn’t seem super casual at first glance, but when you break it down, hopefully you’ll realize it’s not a hassle to recreate and comfortably wear. Simply pair a cream-colored peplum top like the one I chose from ASOS with blush shorts and nude platform sandals, and you’ve got a fashionable (but uncomplicated) ensemble ready to wear all day and night. Additionally, the blouse and studded clutch combination is an excellent way to stylishly fuse retro influences with trendy statement accessories.
At a brunch for the Film Independent Spirit Awards earlier this year, Reed opted to wear an ensemble of basics, which included an orange button-up blouse, dark wash skinny jeans, silver pumps and a green crossbody bag. And much like Reed’s previous outfit, this ensemble can be easily put together. In a sense, it’s a loose interpretation of colorblocking, but I love that the pairing of colors isn’t overwhelming or eccentric like some colorblocked creations can be. That being said, the look’s simplicity allows you to wear a variety of different colors together, so if Reed’s selections aren’t your favorite, feel free to switch up the hues!
Leather separates have been incredibly popular this summer, and Reed demonstrates how you can combine an edgy leather pencil skirt with a striped tee to create a look that is, again, casual yet sleek and stylish. I found most of my substitute pieces on ASOS, including the faux leather skirt, but alternatives for the striped top and multi-chain necklace can more than likely be found at other stores or perhaps even in your own closet. Complete the outfit with black patent strappy sandals, and Reed’s Comic-Con look is yours.
I think I could wear Reed’s final look every day during the summer, as the sheer flowy blouse and denim shorts are some of my summer style staples (try saying that three times fast). Moreover, the brown ankle boots are perfect for wearing throughout multiple seasons; style them with sunny compilations like the one above or show them off with neutral-based fall outfits (like black skinny jeans and an oversized gray sweater) when the colder months roll around.
Reed definitely knows how to work elegant and bold ensembles, but her understated looks will always be some of my favorites.
