Now that Mad Men has (finally) returned to television, we can safely expect to see two things: Don Draper & Co. handling serious business every Sunday night and January Jones shutting it down on and off the red carpet. As one of my favorite celebrity fashionistas (and, in my opinion, one of the best names in Hollywood), Jones always impresses me with her fashion choices, and I can’t wait to see what she wears throughout the rest of the spring season. But for today, I’m taking a look at four of Jones’ outfits from last month and showing you where to find more affordable options that reflect her style.
Starting from the top, I tried to find a dress that exactly matched Jones’ Jason Wu Pre-Fall 2012 design, but I couldn’t locate one that met all of the requirements. However, I did manage to find a couple of dresses that feature a similar black and white pattern. Although my number one pick from Urban Outfitters is a sleeveless, body-con number, it’s a chic interpretation for warmer weather. Plus, it would look amazing with a bold red lip (like Jones’) or even a pair of playfully printed flats. Other flirty frocks inspired by Jones’ two-toned ensemble include this patterned dress from Topshop, an item that rings up at a cool $52, and this wrap dress from Macy’s for about $45.
As for Jones’ actual tops, a polka dot sweater that is strikingly similar to the one she wore on a day out in L.A. can be purchased on American Apparel’s website for $54. Additionally, a cardigan resembling the actress’ bright red choice is sold at Urban Outfitters for only $29. Alternatives for both Jones’ top and blazer in the last ensemble are sold on Forever 21’s website, and are also versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched with other items in your wardrobe.
Items similar to Jones’ pants were easier to find, especially because her choices are so on-trend. And although my first pick is less flared, you can find a pair of cute ankle-length jeans over at H&M. With regard to Jones’ pink pants, I also like this pair from H&M, but if you feel more comfortable wearing denim, I would recommend these jeggings from American Eagle. Lastly, I found a variation of Jones’ super sleek leather pants on ASOS’ website, and despite the difference in color, I think their edgy look paired with a sheer blouse and classic blazer is a killer combination.
Everyone knows a stylish look isn’t complete without a good pair of shoes, and luckily, Jones gives us four options to draw inspiration from, the first being a strappy black sandal that would be a great addition to any woman’s closet. The style I chose as a substitute for Jones’ Jimmy Choos is a pair from Endless that only costs $39.95. And an alternative to the Mad Men star’s tan oxford flats can be found on ModCloth’s website for approximately $35. A pair of grey riding boots to top off the red and pink ensemble are sold through Amazon, and finally, an always-fashionable pair of black platform heels from Endless (much like the ones I selected for re-creating one of Olivia Wilde’s looks) would make an excellent substitute for Jones’ pricier pumps.
Jones certainly knows how to make a fashion statement, and as always, I hope my suggestions for similar styles are to your liking, but if you would like to share any of your own finds, feel free to do so! They are always appreciated. Also, in honor of Mad Men’s return to the small screen, I’m wondering, whose style do you prefer: Betty Draper’s or January Jones’? I’m not entirely sure who I would choose, but there is a special place in my heart for sixties fashion…let me know your opinions in the comments section!
