Style Me GrasieHow To Dress A Very Tall And Slim FrameGrasie Mercedes

Hi Grasie! From reading your posts on HelloGiggles, I’ve grown certain that you really know your stuff when it comes to clothes. In an attempt of getting a crumble of your wisdom, I’ve got a question for you. I am very tall (about 6’2″) and slim with small boobs and bottom. When it comes to casual clothing, I’m alright since I usually don’t dress very feminine on a day-to-day basis. But when it comes to parties, social gatherings and other events that require dressing up of some sort, I’m clueless. If I try to find a dress, it’s either way too short on me or doesn’t fit at all in my upper body. Chinos or other non-jean pants are in 90 percent of the times I try them on way above the kind of short that you can get away with by rolling them up a little. Blouses or cute tops fit weirdly on me. I’m used to being a t-shirt kind of a girl. So, what is in your opinion some good choices for me in this matter? Thank you so much!

Hi Elsa! Luckily, there are great clothing lines with tall fit options especially made for women 5’9″ and taller. My favorites are Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and JCrew. Unfortunately, most of the goods are not in stores so you have to shop online. But since you’re only looking for a couple of outfits for special events, it shouldn’t be too hard to find the perfect fit. I say invest in a great classic dress or a skirt and top option. You can also try a traditional dress shirt and blazer combo. And remember you can make any outfit look dressier with the right statement accessories, and a great pair of shoes.

I can tell from your email this is a frustrating situation for you but try not to let it get you down. We all come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and everyone has their insecurities and hard to dress parts. It’s our unique attributes that make us beautiful. So, order up some options online and have fun trying things on without stressing about it fitting perfectly. Best case scenario, you’ll find that one perfect dress that will fit just right! Worst case, you return the items and try again. I promise you something will click and you’ll have your go-to dress up outfit in no time!

  1. These places are great for tall girls. Sometimes a pretty, classic dress can end up looking ridiculously short and no longer classy on a very tall girl. Thank goodness for Tall sizes & stores =)

  2. I once had a roommate who was 6′-2″, so I know it’s tough.

For social engagements, I would avoid dresses and instead find separates that work for you. I know you said that you have trouble finding blouses, so I would recommend finding a few very good quality pieces which fit as good as possible, and then have them altered to fit you better.

Since tailoring might be something you will have to do often in the future, finding a good tailor (try yelp.com) might be a good idea. Matter of fact, we should all have a good tailor – whether we visit them regularly or just a few times a year.

    Good luck!

  3. As a girl who isn’t vertically challenged by any means at 6’2″, I can totally vouch for the awesomeness of Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy and their tall section online. I used to work for Gap, Inc., and while it’s true that you have to order tall sizes online because they don’t often actively carry them in their stores, the clothes I’ve gotten definitely fit better than some of the sizes in store.

I also have to order pants and jeans online most of the time – Long Elegant Legs and Tall Girl are two great websites where you can find clothes that are perfect for us taller ladies!
