Holiday Check List

Every year I look forward to the holidays, but once they are actually here, I forget to do all the things I really love that make the season special. To avoid this annual heartache, I have decided to make a ‘Holiday Check List’ and share it with all of you.

Listen to Christmas Music
Christmas music is the first (and most important) thing on my check list, because it’s an essential element to every other activity on this list. The music you choose should be a good mix of the old and new. My personal choice is  ’A Very She & Him Christmas.’ Zooey Deschanel and M.Ward have voices that are made for Christmas music. The album is full of old Christmas classics with a new She & Him twist. It’s the ultimate soundtrack to get you in the holiday spirit. Buy the CD here. Decorate the Tree
Music Recommendation: ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,’ She & Him
Turn up your holiday music and take out all those ornaments. Yes, ALL of them. Even that one you made in pre-school that looks like a reindeer/alien cross-breed. Look how far you have come!

If you’re not home for the holidays or don’t have access to the family ornament collection, don’t worry! That’s why the world created pinterest. Get your DIY on with crafty ornaments. I know, DIY is where self esteem goes to die. Stay cheerful by listening to She & Him serenade you with ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.’ It’s hard not to be merry when Zooey is demanding it of you.

Bake/Decorate Cookies
Music Recommendation: ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside,’ She & Him
I’ve never been the best cook, but baking Christmas cookies is more about the journey than the destination. I mean, no one would use red frosting if they actually wanted to enjoy eating their cookies. Invite a few friends over and pour the vino to make it even more fun. Bonus – after the bake-a-thon, you’ll have goodies to bring to all those holiday parties you’re invited to!

Drive around & Look at the Lights
Music Recommendation: ‘Sleigh Ride,’ She & Him
In my opinion, looking at people’s Christmas lights is one of the best parts of the holiday season. You get all the enjoyment of Christmas without any of the hard work/manual labor. Seriously, who are these rocket scientists that perfectly time their lights to music? It’s hard enough for me to find an outlet to plug in my single strand of icicle lights.

This is also the only time of year you can get away with slowly driving around the nicest neighborhood in your city without authorities getting involved. Take advantage of that!

Watch Christmas Movies
Some of my favorite movies are Christmas movies. Snuggle up next to the fire (or space heater) and enjoy some of these classics.
