Tales of a Teen Granny Heroes Don't Have To Be Human!
Scarlett Curtis

I have a bit of a hero complex. I love them, I collect them, I look up to them and apply their wisdom to every day situations. Before you read this, I can assure you that most of my heroes are actually real people, but a few of them (and probably the most special of them) are not human, and that’s part of the reason I love them.

Finding Nemo Marlin

1.    Nemo’s Dad.

Favorite Quote – “I didn’t come this far to be breakfast.”

When it comes to life, I’m a huge wimp. I’m terrified of everything. I’ve never seen a horror movie, never been on a rollercoaster and although I would like to say I sleep so badly because of insomnia, if I’m being honest it’s because at 16 years old, I’m still terrified there is something in my cupboard. Nemo’s Dad is all of these and more, and who can blame him? I mean, how would you feel if you lived in a town with people 500 times bigger than you who thought your sole purpose in life was to be an after dinner snack? But despite all his fears, worries and woes, when his son disappears, nothing’s going to stop Nemo’s Dad from getting him back. Nemo’s dad shows parental love in a way that no human ever could. Of course I know nothing about parental love as I have no children, but I’d like to feel that there are at least a few people in my life who if they were in danger, I would risk as much as Nemo’s Dad risked just to get them back.

Winnie The Pooh

2.    Winnie the Pooh.

I could probably write this whole piece about Winnie the Pooh, that’s how much of a hero he is to me. But for now I will stick with a paragraph. I like to live my life by one simple philosophy: WWPD – What would Pooh Do? This is because if you look deep enough, that tubby little cubby can tell you anything you need to know about how to be a good person: how to think about others, how to look after your friends, how to cheer yourself up, how to love and of course, how to find a Heffalump. To pick my favorite Pooh quote would be like picking my favorite character in Friends – simply impossible, but here are a few to keep you going:

“A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference.”

Nobody is uncheered with a balloon.”

“Those who are clever, who have Brain, never understand anything.”

“Some people care too much; I think it’s called love.

Horton

3.    Horton

Favorite Quote – “Don’t give up! I believe in you all. A person’s a person, no matter how small!”

I find it way to easy to give up, pretend you didn’t care in the first place, declare something too hard or just get bored, but Horton most certainly does not. He’s an elephant chatting to a tiny world on a speck of dust and not at one point does it even cross his mind that he’s wrong, that no one’s ever going to hear the pin prick sized people or that this maybe isn’t the most important thing he could be doing with his day. He’s going to keep on trying until every single kangaroo believes him. He believes he is right, and he doesn’t care what you think.

Paddington

4.    Paddington Bear.

If you don’t know who Paddington Bear is, you can find out here. The reasons I love Paddington are quick and simple. He’s a bear and no one else is a bear, but he doesn’t care. And no one else seems to care. I’m pretty sure this was just put in to make the storyline a bit simpler but as usual, I like to look deeper – you may be extremely weird, you may even be a 2 foot tall bear from Peru but if you act like a human, people gonna treat you like a human. It’s that simple.

Ryan Gosling

5.    Ryan Gosling

I’m sorry, I don’t care how human he looks, someone this hot has got to be an alien, sent down to distract women everywhere while the other normal looking aliens secretly steal our identities. Or maybe he’s just really really good looking.

  5. Awwwie Pooh is too much of a cutie! You know when you introduce some new friend or possible boyfriend to your mom, and she starts telling embarrassing things about your childhood? My mom always tells how in love I was with Winnie The Pooh… But actually I’m not embarrassed ’cause I’m still in love with him.
Paddington is also one cutie everyone should know! I watched him when I was a little toddler… And I threatened my cousins to watch him, too! I was a badass toddler, you know.
And if you have Ryan, I want to have Jake Gyllenhaal for the same reasons you said. Whoa! I’m sure they’re plotting the good-looking alien’s invasion!

  6. awwwww Horton! and Pooh!!! That brightened up my day.
