HelloGiggles on Feminism, Baby Animals & TweensHelloGiggles Team

It began as the girl alternative to Funny or Die: a place where smart, independent, creative women could spread their brand of comedy on the web. A year in, ladyblogging site Hello Giggles may boast as much earnestness as comedy, but it is — in the words of its founding trio — a rare place on the web where negativity isn’t tolerated. “It’s positivity, all the time,” say actress Zooey Deschanel, producer Sophia Rossi, and writer Molly McAleer. On the eve of the site’s one-year anniversary, Tumblr sat down with the women to talk feminism, baby animals and what they have in common with tweens.

I love the direction the site has taken. I have so much respect for you all, and I think you are using media in a really responsible and generous way. When I was in junior high, I would have done anything to trade in my teen vogues for a site like this. Thank you thank you thank you for le paWzzzitive feminism & creativity!

  2. I’m so glad I found out this website..I first went to this website a couple of moths ago and it really brought me that feminine side of me..I mean I was shy and a bit boyish before.. like I was not into those girly stuff like jewellery, dresses, shoes and feeling beauty.. I guess I was just a young teenager then.. but now that I’m 17.. that teenage-y feeling is really rising up (and i don’t think puberty is the only factor:) ) Well..I have two brothers so i guess I got the boyishness^^ because of their influence..i love hanging out with my brothers but I sometimes think what it feels like to have a sister.. through Hellogiggles, I do get some ideas of what it feels like to have a sister because some of us , i really think, have the same thoughts and stuff:) it’s great how we are allowed to have more female role models in life..anyway.. Hellogiggles have fabulous writers, they’re like mind readers when writing articles and such:) keep up the good work guys and hopefully Hellogiggles last a long time:) happy1st-yr anniversatry!:)

  3. Wow, just stumbled across this site and I am officially overdosing on all things adorable! Great job, ladies! Happy Birthday!

  4. They are so awesome! :O)

  5. Happy Birthday HelloGiggles! Started by the dreamteam and continues to be amazing with posts from fantastic writers! Cheers!

  6. It’s definitely one of the best and most open-minded, happy, positive, inspiring places on the ‘net. Happy birthday, HG! :)

  7. I’ve only been going to HelloGiggles for a few months, but it’s definitely been a great new part of my internet routine. I find it baffling that no one thought of this sooner. It’s not just a website with great articles for women, but for people in general who want to read things written from a more positive point of view. Thanks for putting it out there. :)

  8. I’ve been going on HelloGiggles since it was set up, or like a few weeks after, and since then almost every day. It really opened my eyes on a whole bunch of things: how adorable baby sloths are, how to diy feather hair extensions, amazing nail-art how-to’s… but most of all that being girly and feminine doesn’t mean being weak. I love this site because with some amazing articles, it helped me define what kind of person I want to be, and the kind of people I want to surround myself with. All these positive vibes coming from the computer screen just makes me feel better no matter what! :) THANK YOU!

  9. Hello Giggles is like a gossip column or glossy magazine without the rude gossip! It’s nice to feel part of it.

  10. I’ve only known Hello Giggles for a couple of weeks, but it definitely brought a LOT of positivity in my life -and there was TONS of negative, believe me! I am glad that I found out about this wonderful internety-place of freedom, happiness and wonderfulness! Thanks and congratulations to all of you, wonderful women, for making my life a little happier day after day. Yay!
