As huge fans of Harry Styles, we’re still on a high from his SNL performances — and now we get to hear about his personal life! In an interview with Rolling Stone, Styles opened up about his relationship with Taylor Swift, and we are 100% all ears.

If you Swift/Styles fans will recall, the pair began dating in the fall of 2012, but called it quits by January. It’s also long-been rumored that the brief romance and subsequent breakup inspired several of Swift’s songs.

And now Styles is finally commenting on that rumor-inducing time (when he was just 18 years old), specifically about a much-photographed day date in Central Park when the new couple were first getting to know each other.

“When I see photos from that day [in Central Park],” he shares with Rolling Stone, “I think: Relationships are hard, at any age. And adding in that you don’t really understand exactly how it works when you’re 18, trying to navigate all that stuff didn’t make it easier. I mean, you’re a little bit awkward to begin with. You’re on a date with someone you really like. It should be that simple, right? It was a learning experience for sure. But at the heart of it – I just wanted it to be a normal date.”

Yup, we totally get it, Harry. First or second dates are awkward enough, but especially when it makes front page news.

He also shared that while he doesn’t know if Swift’s songs “Style,” and “Out of the Woods” are inspired by their romance, he considers himself lucky if “everything we went through helped create those songs.” Awwwww!

Asked what he would say to Swift if he ran into her today, it’s clear that there are no hard feelings.

“Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the time together. You’re celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than ‘this didn’t work out, and that’s bad.’ And if you run into that person, maybe it’s awkward, maybe you have to get drunk … but you shared something. Meeting someone new, sharing those experiences, it’s the best shit ever. So thank you.”

Thank you @rollingstone

We love this perspective, and have no doubt that Harry will find something that does work out. There’s no rush though, he’s young and the world is his oyster!

There’s no way we could be prouder of the guy he’s becoming, and we can’t wait for more performances of his solo stuff! HINT HINT.
