Happy Women’s Empowerment Week!

January 5th-11th has been named Women’s Empowerment Week by the powers that be, and we here at HelloGiggles are happy to celebrate. We thought we would get the party started with a gallery of woman who were the first to achieve something major! How else should we be celebrating this week? Let us know in the comments below!

Well I try to give a shout out to women I think are inspirational or female driven sites that contribute to women empowerment every Tuesday, with hashtag #INSPIRATIONALWOMENTUESDAY. Maybe we could shine a light on women, from all walks of life, who inspire us with their accomplishments or what they mean to us. Sort of like this post.

Oh and maybe in co-operation with Ruby’s post about denegrating pop music, you could put focus on inspirational songs for and about women in pop music?

    Anyways good start! :-)

Perhaps you could post some articles examining how the media dehumanizes women in advertisements and contributes to a culture of women competing for men’s attention. Maybe something about the uselessness and damages of high heels. You know, something about feminism, not just famous women.

Maybe you could celebrate by having creaters and readers posting what empowers them and what makes them happy. So maybe the woman who aren’t empowered and happy might be inspired to be. Its awesome to acknowledge the women who paved the way so kudos on that, but it never hurts to enlighten and inspire those who’s way have yet to be paved! Love the site btw its my new fave :)

It would be great to discuss not only how far we’ve come, but how the movement for gender equality isn’t over! I’d love to see discussion of how there are so few women in Washington and running large corporations. You could talk about how even when women do make advancements, like in our most recent presidential election, our media is very focused on what women are wearing or whether they’re not feminine enough, instead of focusing on their political beliefs. Even though it’s not pleasant to talk about, I think it’s important to talk about sexual violence and domestic violence and how disturbingly often women experience these kind of violence. Even though these issues can be frustrating and upsetting to discuss, I believe it’s very empowering to talk about what we can do now to create a better future for ourselves and our daughters!

YEs! It would be awesome for this to be a space were women animate their personal movemets, how they empower their passions. Also, some covers or thoughts on great girl empowered bands of the pop, punk, soul, all kinds sort.

I think these are great ideas! I love the idea of talking about what empowers the readers and writers on this site. I also love the idea of talking about the problems women still face in order to empower ourselves with knowledge and to fight back.
