Happy National Popcorn Day!Rachel Hintz

January 19th is National Popcorn Day!

Why Celebrate?

Some of my best childhood memories include popping popcorn. My grandpap would put a scoop of kernels into that cool looking hot air popcorn popper, and my brother and I would watch and wait in anticipation. Silence for a while. Waiting for that first pop. Dancing excitedly with each popped kernel’s flight into the popcorn bowl. Something about this process was so much more fun than just putting a popcorn bag into the microwave.

No matter how you pop it, it’s the ultimate party snack. The quintessential movie theatre treat. The obvious choice for a girl’s night in. Popcorn is fantastic, not only because it is so easy to prepare, but also because it comes in so many flavors. Buttered, kettle corn, caramel, white cheddar… the list goes on. It’s a real crowd pleaser, and depending on how you top your popcorn, it can be a really healthy alternative to other treat choices. And if you are feeling more decadent, go gourmet. Dress it up, dress it down. Casual or fancy. Popcorn fits any munchie mood, salty, sweet, or savory, and today we celebrate this fabulous supersnack.

How to Celebrate

Are you going to a party to watch the football game today? Bring popcorn. Is your bestie coming over to watch last week’s Bachelor? Make some popcorn. Do you have a big project to finish up for work? Pop a bag of popcorn. Give me any scenario, and I will work popcorn into your plan for the day.

If you are feeling crafty, there are TONS of cutsie popcorn crafts on Pinterest. So many totes adorbs party favors and fun ways to use popcorn (other than for eating). Ugh, I love Pinterest.

Video of the Day

Because when I think of popcorn, I can’t help but think of Snoopy’s Thanksgiving dinner.
