It’s Groundhog Day! The one day out of the year where we take a rodent from Pennsylvania’s advice on the weather over an actual meteorologist’s. Whether or not you actually believe that a groundhog can tell if it’s going to be a long or short winter based on whether or not he sees his shadow, Groundhog Day can offer a little ray of hope in an otherwise hopeless winter. Even if Punxsutawny Phil (the groundhog’s name, after the town in which the festivities take place) sees his shadow, at least we have a definitive end date on winter, even if it’s not for six more weeks.
It’s Groundhog Day! The one day out of the year…. wait a minute. Just kidding!
More than just celebrating a rodent’s acknowledgement of a shadow, Groundhog Day also gives you a chance to re-live your favorite Bill Murray film (and re-live it, and re-live it, and re-live it, and re-live it again). Yes, I am talking about the film of the same name as the day, but you probably already figured out that I wasn’t talking about Caddyshack, right? If you’ve never seen Groundhog Day, Bill Murray plays a weatherman who heads to Punxsutawney Pennsylvania to cover the big event and ends up getting snowed in. When he wakes up, it’s Groundhog Day again, and he’s forced to relive it over and over and over again.
If you’re a busy person like me, then you probably don’t have time to watch the whole movie, so I compressed it into today’s gallery! Warning: spoilers ahead. If you’ve never seen this movie, do yourself a favor and take 2 hours out of your day, because the real thing will be much more enjoyable than my screen caps do it justice.
It’s Groundhog Day! The one day out of the year…
