Don’t put away your neon bikinis and ski masks just yet; they’re making a Spring Breakers‘ sequel.
It’s called Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, and apparently it’s about what happens when our girls bump heads with extreme Christians who try to convert them. So does this mean less Skrillex? Unclear.
Regardless, we couldn’t be more excited and here’s why:
1. WE REALLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO EXPECT
Aside from that brief description, we really don’t know what’s in store. We do know that it won’t be a “direct sequel,” and there’s been talk that it might be a prequel. Also, there’s a new writer and director. The original was written and directed by Harmony Korine who is married to Rachel Korine who played Cottie in the film (the one with the really cool pink hair). Irvine Walsh, the author of Trainspotting wrote the new Spring Breakers and Jonas Akerlund plans to direct. So basically anything can happen.
2. MORE JAMES FRANCO / ALIEN (FINGERS CROSSED)
James Franco was for sure one of the best parts of Spring Breakers. Just ask James Franco. No seriously, he was campaigning for an Oscar nod on his Instragram. A nom I for one think he deserved. Since it’s possible that the new Spring Breakers could be a prequel and…
…Alien dies at the end of Spring Breakers. The hopes of a prequel means more Alien. And apparently it’s looking good because according to Franco, when they were shooting the first film there was talk of a prequel. So fingers crossed.
3. MAYBE ANOTHER BRITNEY SPEARS SING-ALONG?
Their sing-long to Britney’s “Everytime,” was just gold. Please – more Britney Spears covers!
4. MORE SPRING FASHION INSPIRATION!
Who needs fashion week when there are movies about spring break?! Spring Breakers inspired me to wear more neon, more beanies and made me contemplate for a solid minute if I should die my hair pink. I really loved the film’s bold and carefree fashion choices. Can’t wait to see what the girls will be wearing in the next one.
5. THE SOUNDTRACK
Was pretty close to perfect in the first one. Beyond excited to hear how they score the next one. Especially with the whole “extreme militant Christians factor.” Can Skrillex remix hymns?
6. EVEN IF IT’S BAD, IT WILL STILL BE GOOD
But who are we kidding?! Nothing beats the original. Sure, we will always get excited for a sequel. We will buy tickets, wait in line, count down the days, maybe even dress up (I don’t recommend wearing bikinis in a movie theater because of the air conditioning). And after all that we’re usually somewhat disappointed. But then time passes, we rent the movie and we love it. Because even if the sequel/prequel is bad, eventually it will be good. I believe the saying is, disappointment plus time equal comedy?
Whatever’s in store, we’re certainly excited. Are you? What are you most looking forward to in the new Spring Breakers?
