How Cliche:But seriously every girl should read this

Since attending college this fall I havent had all the lesiure time in the world, but all school studies aside I had to read this book. The book is called Unbearable Lightness A Story of Loss and Gain, by Portia DeRossi. Its possibly one of the best true stories ever. I'm not the best explainer in the world but its basically about her struggles with anorexia, balimia, and her sexuallity. I enjoyed the book because it was well written, sweet and short...maybe a 260 page turner--give or take. There you go just seriosly check it out you wont be sorry.

I really want to read this. I remember when Ally McBeal was on and just how disgustingly skinny all the actresses were. I know Courtney Thorne-Smith said she also dieted excessively while on the show. Here's a good article from Jezebel - http://bit.ly/ahyYLR
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,

but be bright,
bright,
bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.

hey there!!!

Just wanted to say that I TOTALLY agree with you on this one.
That book is both heartbreaking and exhilarating as Portia basically bares her soul for the world to see.
It's quite amazing in the way that she's not sugarcoating anything, not even the gloomy/depressing/downright ewwww-y details, but it's fantastic to read how far she has come, how she redeemed herself in her own eyes and how love and self-respect helped her all the way to recovery.

I love how brutally honest this book is. the writing is better than I expected, fluid, simple, to the point, all the more powerful for the reader.

It's one of these powerful and inspiring books. The kind that you relish and pass on to your friends. My respect and admiration for Portia grew exponentially after reading it. she's a survivor and I bet this book can help so many people with the similar sickness.

read it, it's fabulous :)

I read this book and it was amazing. When I first picked up the book, the only thing I knew about her was that she was Ellen Degeneres' wife. After reading it, I have complete respect for her. This book was honest, powerful, heartbreaking, and completely inspiring. She pretty much opened her soul up for the entire world to see. I believe this book has the potential to help so many people who are in a similar situation. I also think it is a good book for people who have family/friends going through this situation. I think it would them understand what this disorder can do to a person and what a person's thought process.

I really want to read this!
I remember watching her interview with Ellen when she first released the book and thought it sounded really interesting!
Now this thread has furthered my interest. Definitely on my reading list! :)
