Multiple Readings

Postby Ptree82 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 9:24 am

I usually dedicate myself to one book at a time but my book club picked our next read and I still have about 200 pages left of the current book I'm reading. Since the book I'm reading now is a big hardcover I'm going to leave it at home and only read it there. My book club book is a small paperback so I'll take that with me to read during my commute. I've never read two books at once, aside from for school. What are your thoughts on that? Does anyone else like reading two books at once or are you against it?

I haven't been able to do that since I was quite young. When I was 8, I was reading three books at the same time and I told my mother the children's librarian that I finished one and she asked what it was about, and I gave her a summary that combined all three books together. Of course she knew, and I've been embarrassed ever since. True story. :)

I'm with you Ptree, the only time I've really done it is for school. Otherwise I like to keep them seperate. I like to really delve into whatever it is I'm reading, so I don't want to be distracted by anything else.

Yeah, I'm generally monogamous in my literary relationships;) School was different. Now, the only exception is when I'm rereading a book (currently Little House on the Prairie), I'm also reading a new book.

Ptree - are you doing the hellogiggles book club?
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,

but be bright,
bright,
bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.

Elizabeth - LOLOL awesome story!

I think the only way I'll be able to pull this off is because they're two totally different books. I'm hoping I don't get confused or distracted but I really need to read the book club book soon because we've totally been slacking on our meetings =/

I don't think I've ever read multiple books at once besides for school. It seems like I would naturally neglect one book for another.

I tend to read two books at once when I've bought the two at the same time and can't decide which one to read first :s Though at some point I sometimes stop reading one to concentrate fully on the other.

Brightasyellow, your comment about being monogamous when it comes to literary relationships had me crying with laughter

Maybe for the next book the do. I know for a fact that my brother bought me The Magician for Christmas so I wouldn't be able to start reading until then and I don't want to be too far behind everyone else.

Ahh!!! I always think about this and find it really strange that many people don't multiple read!
I usually start about five books off at one time and then revert back to different ones according to my mood at the time. At the moment if I'm in a romantic mood I'll scurry back to Thomas Hardy's 'Far From The Madding Crowd', but often I'm in a horror-book mood and wipe the cobwebs off Bram Stoker's Dracula :)
You should definitely do it :) and in that way you can read all the books you want to read faster and have room for even more!

Happy reading! :)

That's actually a really good point! I like the idea of reading depending on my mood because reading something that you don't feel like reading is such a waste of time for you and for the book! Thanks for the input ;)
