Face wash: I used to use Cetaphil face wash, which is a really decent drugstore one. I think it might be a little more expensive than other drug store face washes (it usually retails around $11-$14 in Canada?) but you get quite a bit of product; if I recall correctly one bottle would last me close to a year (I only clean with face wash in the evening, though!) Another good one that is quite reasonably priced is Mario Badescu's Enzyme Cleansing Gel, it's one of the ones I use in my regular rotation - very gentle, but cleans your face really well without making it feel tight.

Moisturizer: I tend to splurge on moisturizers, but I've used Neutrogena's with the SPF (I don't know the exact name, sorry!) and I found it worked really well. I've heard good things about Aveeno's moisturizers too!

One of the best tips I've learned is for if you're suffering from red, irritated skin: you can make a simple aspirin mask using an uncoated aspirin tablet - mix it into a paste with a little warm water and slather onto your face! It does wonders for getting rid of redness.

Superlatifs - I'm going to try that asprin mask!! Sounds super interesting and I love homemade beauty treatments.

My FAVORITE mask is the Dea Sea Mud Mask from Sabon: http://sabonnyc.com/face/masks/mud-mask-361.html

This stuff is a miracle in a jar. I know it's pricey but it lasts you for so long that you buy it so few and far between that in the long run, it's not too expensive. The jar says to wear it for five minutes/until dry but if you feel a breakout coming on, dab some on and leave it overnight. It will change your life. Sabon is an Israel soap company and uses the "healing properties of the Dead Sea, with its vital minerals and salts."

I highly recommend it : )

elizabethlsiegel wrote:Okay. I don't know if any of you ladies have curly hair, but I'm kind of obsessed/in love with my hair routine and I've been pushing it on everyone I know with curly hair. I should really be a spokesperson for these products. So I don't care if this isn't relevant to anyone. I just get really excited about my hair routine. I'm not even kidding. I've tried like, every curly hair product in the book. I just really love my curls. I hate straightening my hair and I veryyyyy rarely do it because in all honesty I get lonely when I don't have an atmosphere around my head.

For shampoo and conditioner, I've gotten good results with either Herbal Essences curly hair shampoo and conditioner (bright purple bottles) orrrrr... and I'm currently using this right now... Aveda Be Curly shampoo and conditioner. It's expensive and I've gone through it more quickly than I would've liked to, but the results are great. I absolutely love Aveda.

Right when I get out of the shower, I put in Aveda Smooth Infusion Style-Prep Smoother before doing ANYTHING else and this confuses the hell out of the people at Aveda. They completely don't understand why I use this product. I started using it for my trip to Israel earlier this year as an attempt to combat the frizz. It does a good job of keeping the Jew-fro down.

So then I dry my hair WITH A TSHIRT and NOT with a towel. Again, frizz protection. And then I do the weirdest part of my hair routine that everyone always laughs at me for. I scrunch with my Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner. Mixed Chicks is a brand of hair products specifically formatted for biracial girls. I'm very clearly not biracial. I'm the whitest, Jewishest girl on the planet but I SWEAR by this stuff. I started using it because I heard of some other very white, and Jewisher girls using this product.

The end. You guys, that was just the most exciting thing I've done all day. :D

This is Elizabeth's post from Favorite Make-Up Products/Product Reviews that XYZ is talking about. I don't have super curly hair, but I got some waves that defintiely get frizzy pretty easily. I'm going to try drying my hair with a t-shirt tonight!

Like Elizabeth, I have a Jewfro. She and I have a very similar routine. Here's mine:

I found these products a year and a half ago and they have changed my hair life: Deva Curls no-poo and one conditioner. There is no soap in the "no-poo" so it doesn't dry your hair out. I use the no-poo first, massaging my scalp really well. Then I use the conditioner and run my fingers through my hair but from the inside (so my fingers start under my hair and comb out - if that makes sense). I leave the conditioner in while I wash my body and then rinse it out. It's okay if some stays in. After I turn the shower off, I run my fingers through my hair again and then turn my head upside down so the hair is hanging down. Run fingers through hair again. And then I scrunch my hair up towards my head to get the extra water out. Then I take a cotton t-shirt and scrunch the hair up towards my head, again, squeezing out any more hair. This prevents frizzies. A lot of people use the Deva Curls gel, but it made my hair feel funny. Then I let my hair air-dry. My hair has never felt as clean and soft and I rarely get frizzies. It's awesome.
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,

but be bright,
bright,
bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.

But remember just to squeeze the moisture out of the hair with the t-shirt; don't rub it on your hair!
