How I Met Your Mother

Postby cindypark26 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:58 am

Alright...who watched this weeks episode of HIMYM?? Awesome, right? However, completely confusing at the same time. My friends and I were debating for way too long about what Robin's narration really meant. SPOILER: DO NOT CONTINUE READING IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THE 12/5 EPISODE OF HIMYM!!!!!!

So, Robin's kids that she is talking to the entire episode are just a figment of her imagination. But throughout the entire show she kept referring to "their father" as Barney. Now I took this as Robin and Barney will end up together as a married couple. Although narrator Ted (Bob Saget) says that Robin turns out to be a world traveller and amazing reporter, I still believe that the show's point was to reveal that Barney and Robin do end up together and she imagines the kids she could have had with him.

However, my friends believe that Robin was referring to Barney as the father of her imaginary kids not because they end up together, but because he was the only one to give her a pregnancy scare. They believe that this episode was not a solid hint at Barney and Robin's future but merely just another story in the plot line.

What do you guys think?! I'm dying to know but I am a HUGE Barney/Robin fan (as you can tell). But this season just keeps getting better!!

I know!! Before we found out everything was fake, I wasn't watching the show live but my friend was. She was blowing up my phone freaking out and then at 7:30 I just got a text saying "I'm confused...please watch then come over and discuss".

I'm so excited for next week!

What's your favorite episode? I'm a huge fan of "Slapsgiving" and the episode where the slap bet begins.

I hope that Robin and Barney get together. I think by the end of this season we will def know because the 1st episode with the stupid wedding and Barney saying this is the most important tie, blah blah.

I watch the show thinking how great it would be to be in a relationship like Marshall and Lilly. Does anyone else think that?

I want what Marshall and Lilly have sooooo badly!! They are the best couple on TV by far. I also have a slight inappropriate obsession with Jason Segul so that may have something to do with it...

I actually got upset at the ending of this week's episode...I was so,so excited when I thought that Robin and Barney had twins (?) together, and the whole story is just sad in general. The show uses unreliable narrators a loooot though so I really shouldn't have been surprised that it ended the way it did.

I'm so frustrated by how dragged out everything is! The characters seme to beincapable of making a decision and sticking with it, and Ted is stuck in this really boring rut right now...
Is it me, or did the writers hint that Robin will end up with Don? I don't remember what exactly it was, but I think Marshall and Ted were saying how, after she broke up with someone or said that she was done with men or something along those lines, that meant she would meet her future husband--and then she met Don the next day. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I was upset with the ending for a different reason. I was just talking to my boyfriend about this. I really hated how Robin got all mushy about not being able to have kids when she was always so opposed to having them. This isn't some sort of political-feminist anger. It's more of an I-hate-it-when-TV-shows-perpetuate-emotional-cliches kind of anger. I understand that this might be Robin's character flaw, but but but everyone just went 'aww, sniff' on it. Le sigh.

I do think that Robin used to be a really strong, independent character, and as the seasons have progressed she's kind of lost that. I don't know, though, I think it was valid for her to be upset about the kids thing, at least for the one episode...it's one thing to choose not to have kids, and it's another to realize that you can never, ever change your mind about that.

Yea Robin has slightly been getting on my nerves lately. But I agree with Anna that she did have valid reasons for being sad. Overall, that episode was just way too much for me to handle.

Anna - I do remember that hint about Don. This show drops so many hints its hard to keep track!! I just want to meet the mother already!!!

I dont think Robin and Barney will end up together in the end, even if they for some reason get married I think it definitely won't last. They have hinted on the show that Robin will have a lasting relationship with that guy she met when Ted was buying his hideous red boots lol. If you don't remember him here he is!

I think at some point (unless that guy doesn't want to be on the show) those two will definitely end up together! I think this episode was just to show you what could have been if Robin was able to have kids and had been pregnant.
