Summer - I was never taught that it was wrong, but I somehow internalized it anyway, probably because it was so hush-hush. None of my friends talked about it in high school or college, but when I was in my mid-20s, it suddenly became a topic of conversation and I was pleasantly surprised that it was so prevalent. It took me a long, long time to become okay with it. That's one of the reasons I like websites like Jezebel.com - they talk about stuff like that so openly that it's empowering.
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,
but be bright,
bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.
