xyz--Yes, that is a solid documentary! I had forgotten about it, thanks for bringing it up. The rating system in the country is absolutely ridiculous, and I think it has a clear anti-woman sentiment that goes mainly unnoticed.

xyz - I think I saw some of that doc... And, yes, there's a huge problem with our society in that women being pleasured is considered dirty somehow. Think about how discussion there is about men masturbating and yet so little about women masturbating...

Honestly, tried watching *. But couldn't take the fake breasts... I felt it was distracting and they were...well... balloon-like. Also cardboard dialogue that's obviously filler.

brightasyellow: I totally agree. Female masturbation just isn't as accepted in society. I remember when I was younger my mom caught me and freaked out and just told me not to. I think if I was a guy, she would have just ignored it. But accepted it.

Great article! It's interesting that there seems to be no worry about the women in * being so attractive that female viewers might be turned on. But I also think that it's more acceptable for a woman to say she finds another woman attractive than for a man to say the same about another man.

I might be going off on a tangent by bringing this up, but I find it annoying when men find girl-on-girl * hot and be super grossed out when it's guy-on-guy. It's hypocritical. I know a lot of guys who would claim to be turned on by, umm, dare I say it... "lesbian action", but wouldn't say the same when it's guys. I'm not sure what the psychology is behind that, but to put it simply, it's just not fair.

Thanks for joining the discussion! That was an interesting article. I think homophobia plays a huge part in mainstream *. I'm glad the article brought up how the man in * isn't as "seen" as the woman/women because it somehow plays into a male viewer's fear that he may be turned on by both the man and woman. I think this also may be one reason why men are shown as so dominant and degrading towards women in *, as a way to compensate for any inadvertant pleasure given by watching the male action. Does that make sense?

So, Anne, I don't actually think you've gone of on a tangent at all. * isn't "fair." It's primarily produced for a male audience, and the male viewer tends to have (realized or not) homophobia. Men can't be interested in guy-on-guy action, because that would make them gay, of course. Even seeing too much of the man in heterosexual * could mean they're gay!
