Beer & Wine Thread

Postby xyz » Thu Nov 17, 2011 5:34 pm

Getting ready for my beloved Thursday night comedy line up with some Fat Tire. I LOVE beer and hope some of you do too. Give me all of your recommendations and details of the hoppy hoppy goodness!

I wish I was more wine educated. I'm not really into reds but whites (pinot grigio & moscato mostly) can be pretty tasty. Give me wines to check out and educate me! What should I be looking for?

I absolutely love beer. I've only been 21 since February but I've become really interested in microbrews and just trying everything I can and I wish I had a buddy to go to beer tastings and stuff with so I can "learn beer." That's what the girl at the beer store called it. "Learning beer." I'm especially interested in local brews. There are a lot of them here in Cleveland.

I can't drink red wine because I'm allergic to the sulfites (sp?) - one sip gives me a headache. I love white wine, though. Prosecco is delicious - it's a sparkling white. It's so good that I get drunk off of it easily.
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,

but be bright,
bright,
bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.

Beer is delicous! I can't imagine this world without it. You should find yourself a good beer garden or brewery that has a nice selection and just try a little of everything. Personally, Leffe Blonde is my favorite. It just goes with every meal and it's light enough to drink a lot without feeling too full. However I will admit that when I'm going out specifically to get drunk off my beer I drink Coors Light. Cheap and easy!

As for wines, I've tried a lot and just like with the Coors, I don't have very expensive taste. I can't justify spending $50 on a bottle of wine when Pinot Grigio goes for $12!

As a French, I'm a bit of a cliché because I'm in love with wine, especially Chardonnay (white wine so). I also drink beer sometimes but not as often as wine. Italian wine is really good as well :)
I feel old, but not very wise.

Haha I'm the same way. When I go out, it's strictly PBR and when I buy my own wine I keep to champagne under $10.

I went on a tour of the Sam Adams brewery in the spring and it was really fun. One of the beers they served us is only sold in Boston area bars and it makes me cry to think I might never have it again. It tasted wonderfully and felt like a marshmallow in my mouth!

I have no hate for cheap beers. Miller High Life is one of my favorites. I just really like trying new ones and trying to pair them is fun.

I bought a sampler pack of seasonal Sam Adams flavors because I'm bad at making decisions and there was a Bonfire flavor that tasted like bacon. It was insane.

I highly recommend that everyone seeks out Great Lakes Brewing Company's Christmas Ale before it goes away for the year. It tastes like actual Christmas.

If you like Riesling, you absolutely having to try Dragonstone! The maker, Leitz, consistently wins major awards in Europe for it, yet it's only about $15/bottle! I normally don't like to spend more than $10 on a bottle of wine (can you say student loans?) but this is definitely worth it.

I'm not a big fan of red wine, but I once had a Malbec that I loooved at an Argentinian restaurant. The thing is, whenever I buy Malbec on my own, I hate. Any recommendations?
