Tear Jerkers

There are four songs that instantly send tears streaming down my face. So, if you ever want to see me cry out of nowhere, turn on: "Hear You Me" by Jimmy Eat World, "Fix You" by Coldplay, "Cosmic Love" by Florence & the Machine and "My Immortal" by Evanescence. I can't pin point the memories that these songs are triggering, if any. Or maybe they're just so beautiful that I'm moved to tears?

Am I alone in this? Do you have songs that cause you to weep?

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton always makes me cry. Or, almost always... funny story, last night at work (I work in a bar), it was karaoke night, and some guy all on his own got up and sang Tears in Heaven. Full on wailed it. Later on he got up and did other sad ballads too. I felt so sorry for him. Some girl clearly did him wrong. (But obviously all the bartenders were in fits... and needless to say the bar emptied due to the sad man.)

Coldplay's "The Scientist", Great Lake Swimmer's "Where in the World are you Now", Sufjan Stevens "Casimir Pulaski Day" and Death Cab's "Transatlanticism" all make me just bawl like a baby. Of course, they all remind me of a friend that passed away. And yet, the fact that I ugly cry when I listen to them doesn't stop me from doing so.

It was so funny to come across this post in my daily indulgence of HelloGiggles. Just last week i was having a few Friday night drinks with my flatmates (3 males: a builder, a plumber and an electrician) and we suprisingly stumbled into a discussion on our secret sad songs list. Their songs choices were definately not what i expected cause they are your typical metal rock and eniminem fans. They were as follows:

Michael Buble 'Take me home' and most of this album...
Sinead O'connor 'Nothing compares'
Coldplay 'Yellow'
R.E.M 'Everybody hurts'
Celion Dion 'All by myself'
Jeff Buckley 'Hallelujah'
Elton John 'Your Song'
Phill Collins 'Against all odds'
To name a few...

Mine were..
Laura Veirs 'Little Descutes'
Extreme 'More than words'
Damien Rice 'Blower's Daughter' and 'Cold Water'
Coldplay 'Green Eyes'
Skeeter Davies * end of the world'
Bon Iver 'Michicant'

We agreed in summary anything with lyrics that cause those little heart aches and provoke you to think about every loss and potential loss, partnered with an eerie melody usually does the trick. The funny thing is they are usually the songs you remember every word of. The conversation then progressed to what are your sleep songs...

"Dear Marie - The String".... the last line is my favorite. It's about a dad passing away to cancer, and leaving behind this song for his daughter. It's a way for him to always be with her as she grows up.

Oh god there are so many:
Cancer-My Chemical Romance, Dark Paradise-Lana Del Rey, Moments-One Direction, Small Bump-Ed Sheeran, Skin and Bones-David J. Roch, You Really Got a Hold On Me-She & Him, Unintended-Muse and Follow Me-Muse

The beginning of Follow Me is the sound of his sons sonogram and he wrote it for his son and he just looks so emotional and sincere when he plays it live. Here are some of the lyrics " you can follow me, I will always keep you safe, follow me, you can trust in me, I will always protect you my love, feel my love." like if that doesn't just make you want to ugly cry then I don't even know.
