Crafty ideas for redecorating?

Postby goddessmushu » Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:01 pm

So my boyfriend is going away to America for 3 months, so first off if any of you on the other side of the Atlantic see him say hi!
But while he is away I asked him to set me a challenge/project to keep me from lying in bed wishing I was at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (instead of) as well as him!

The challenge is to redecorate my room by the time he comes back.
Now my room is a tip!
I'm talking clothes rails overflowing, scuffed paint, curtains pinned to the top of the window because I don't know how to put up the curtain rail that has been gathering dust under my bed for the past year and a bit. But not to mention my beloved cardboard cut outs and movie posters from my days working at the local cinema. They've gotta go :[ apparently the Scream 4 poster pinned over my bed isn't exactly grown up or romantic. :I

Either way I'm excited about it and actually can't wait for him to leave (Lies) so I can get started!
So I thought this was the perfect place to come to see if anyone has any crafty ideas or styles they've seen online or in general that they could suggest?

I don't want to just whack a coat of paint on it I want to make it different and cool rather than the hoarders haven it is at the moment (I mean really when the hell am I really going to use an untouched diary from 2010?!)

Any and all ideas are appreciated :]

Lots of giggles,
Mica

Your biggest challenge will probably be getting rid of stuff. A quote I always loved and found useful when cleaning is "Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful." So with your overflowing closets, get rid of any clothes that you don't wear anymore and if you're really crafty you can reconstruct them into something new like making scarves or maybe sew some fun shirts together into a throw blanket and frame some graphic tees to replace your movie posters as wall art. Also hanging a curtain rod isn't very hard if you have an electric drill to hang up the equiptment. There's something about power tools that make me feel super independent!

Good luck with everything and I hope your boyfriend has a safe trip =)

I am reading a book called How to be the Perfect Housewife and she says to get rid of everything that isn't beautiful, useful or seriously sentimental. I think that getting rid of stuff would be the first step. I have so much stuff everywhere! Card making stuff, pile of fabric and wool and lots of books.

The author also recommends baskets as storage. I have pretty storage boxes for all my magazines from the 1950s - it protects them and looks tidy.

Maybe look through some magazines and on the internet to try to figure out your style. Mine is girly, pink and as far from minimalist as possible!!

Be ruthless getting rid of stuff!! I say this and yet am rubbish at it myself - rapidly running out of space.
