Neil Gaiman

Anyone interested in him? I've always heard he's a great writer, but I've never actually read any of his work (although I have seen Coraline and Stardust...if that counts for anything...and I did read Little,Big (http://www.amazon.com/Little-Big-John-C ... 577&sr=8-1) because I thought, for some reason, that he wrote it.)
So anyway, can anyone recommend a book of his for a first-time reader? I heard American Gods is good, but the descriptions of it on Amazon leave me more confused than intrigued. So! Thoughts?

I didn't know that he wrote Stardust! I loved that movie. I haven't read anything by him but there is no doubt that he is pretty impressive. My roommate in college was in love with The Sandman series. I glanced but never got into it. I might have to check out Stardust though.

I've been told that the (Stardust) movie is actually better than the book, but I guess that can be pretty subjective. I do love that movie, though, so it's probably worth taking a look at.

I looooove Neil! I'd aslo suggest American Gods but thats just because that was the first book from him that I read and totally got me into his works. Good Omens is good as well and so is The Graveyard Book which is a fun/dark read like Coraline.

My boyfriend is obsessed with Neil Gaiman. * has already mentioned the few of his books that I've read but next on my list are Fragile and Snow, Glass, Apples. Such a great writer.

American Gods is my favorite Neil Gaiman book, but I would maybe start with The Graveyard Book, as it's an easier read. So good though. I have enjoyed all the books of his that I have read.

I'v read most of his stuff. Good Omens in hilarious! But my fav, hands down, is Neverwhere. A magical adventure through involving an alternate version of London.

I am a big Gaiman fan. I wouldn't rule out Stardust. It's quite different from the film and is just a beautiful little dark fairytale (not particularly long either). I also loved American Gods and Anansi Boys. Has any read his Sandman graphic novels?
