Book Club
Starting a book club in the forum has been like planning a new diet for the following day. “Yeah, sounds great!” “Let’s start tomorrow!” The idea has been bounced around for quite some time. It hasn’t gained any momentum past that though. I know there have been a few book-specific discussions, but they all seem to fade quickly.

So, how do we make this happen? Selfishly, I want this to succeed because I want a book club with awesome, like-minded people and that can be hard to find in person. Maybe we just need to nail down the deets. Let’s pick three books to read in the coming months. Let’s decide on the order and read one book a month. Then, we can gather and discuss. We can set up a thread for each book, or we can continue on the same Book Club thread and have ongoing discussions. Thoughts? Share them here!

Cartoons vs. Animated Series
This is an interesting topic that I had never really thought about until now. Is there a difference between the two? Is the animated series the modern version of cartoons? Here’s what one of our forum users had to say about it:

When my mother was growing up there were just Cartoons, but in a recent era Animated Series have become very popular in the night time television viewing slot. You’re probably thinking ‘but isn’t it the same thing?’ But I beg to differ. A cartoon is something along the lines of your classic Looney Tunes or a Hanna Barbera production (Yogi Bear, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Top Cat; you get it). Just fun simple animated stunts with a few questionable violent scenes, much more noticable when you’re older. But examples of an Animated Series include the oh-so legendary Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, South Park etc. Yes all of those are very entertaining to watch, but some subject matters maybe inappropriate for childern. ‘Well duh,’ you’re thinking. ‘Thats why they give you the viewer discretion warning’ True, but some of the subject matter can still even be offensive to adult viewers. Now you’re probably think, ‘Where the heck are you going with this?’ No, I am not a anti late night animated series protester trying to stop the networks from continuing to screen these brainwashing shows of the air. I actually enjoy wity, sarcastic, insulting comedy that may get the writers into trouble and actually just learned that in order to not get offended you have to know where the writers are going. But where I’m going before this turns into a short story, is which do you guys perfer? I personally enjoy both worlds of animation. The innocent, harmless, sometimes maybe moral implied classics all the way to the very funny, creative, occasional swear words in dialogue cartoons. In fact, what are some of you’re favs of neither or either?
