Five Blogs You Should Be Reading

Is it just me, or does anyone else get a total thrill when discovering a new blog or site to fall in love with? There’s nothing like it. Call me a nerd, but when I find a new-to-me blog full of inspiring words, photos and ideas, I find myself taking some time and reading it from beginning to end. I love it.  So today I thought I’d share some of my most favorite blogs and sites from across the world wide web. Enjoy, and happy reading!

1. Katie’s Pencil Box

Now, this statement is a bold one, but I mean every word of it: Katie’s Pencil Box is my most favorite blog of all time. Katie’s corner of the internet is a wonderful place, full of gorgeous photos and inspiring words. Without ever saying so, she reminds her readers to look for beauty in unexpected places and for joy in everyday things. Katie’s love for life is so obvious and it comes across in everything she shares, from her photos to words, and in the way she makes the most normal of occasions seem magical. Simply put, Katie is a breath of fresh air and her blog is a genuinely happy place I find myself visiting everyday.

2. The Glow

My friend James posted about this blog last week and since then, I’ve enjoyed reading through every bit of it. It’s a new blog- it was started just last month, actually- and I am anxiously awaiting their next post. In a nutshell, The Glow is a look at inspiring, fashionable moms and their day-to-day lives. It’s full of gorgeous photos accompanied by interesting commentary. They’ve featured designers, photographers, business owners – women from all walks of life. As of right now, all of the women highlighted are from NYC, and I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing moms from all over the country. It’s a neat project and I’ve been recommending it like crazy to all the mothers and women in my life.

3. Shutterbean

If you’re in the mood for pretty photos of food you can make right at home, look no further than Shutterbean! But even better – Tracy’s recipes are actually doable, unlike so many of the daunting directions I see on a lot of food blogs. Shutterbean is a whole lot of everything: bits of Tracy’s life with her family in San Francisco, photos of food that make my mouth water, and inspiration to make healthy choices that still taste good. Shutterbean is my favorite food blog for a few reasons, but perhaps the most important one is that Tracy’s kindness and appreciation for the little, beautiful things in life come through in every post she shares. Her realness and candidness is refreshing, and I love that we get a little bit of humor in every Shutterbean recipe, too.

4. All Things Carly

Carly is the self-proclaimed “tattooed Martha Stewart” and I’d have to agree – this little lady knows her way around a recipe, DIY, you name it. All Things Carly is chock full of visual eye candy she’s gathered from all over the web, home-improvement projects, must-try recipes and bits of her beautiful life with her tattoo-artist husband. My favorite thing about Carly’s blog is the happy feel I get from all of her posts; she’s girl-positive, excited about life and her passion for what she does is apparent. Whenever I visit her space, I find myself getting inspired to make the world around me even more beautiful.

5. Adeline’s Daddy

There are a million and one “mommy blogs” out there, and when I first discovered Don’s space, I was so intrigued to see parenthood through a male’s eyes in blog form.  Don’s an incredibly dedicated father and husband who also runs his own design business. Adeline’s Daddy is a mix of his daily life, projects he’s working on, and adorable pictures of his family. It’s neat to see a father sharing his story in the often female-centric blog world, and I love getting a glimpse into the Naylors’ world. Don and his beautiful wife Rachel will also often produce fun videos sharing family adventures, and it’s pretty amazing to think about their daughter one day being able to look back at all of it.

So, how about you? I’d love it if you would share links to your favorite blogs in the links below, so we can all discover some new sites to fall in love with!

I completely love Katie’s Pencil Box too – the time I spend reading her blog each day is like a complete break from everything – she just exudes peace and quiet.

I’ll definitely check out the others – I think one of my current favourites is Harpers Happenings (http://www.harpershappenings.com/) – I’m not a mum, and so many mum blogs are hard to relate to if you’re not a parent yourself, but Mandy makes me laugh out loud EVERY. TIME.

These are great. I’m loving The Glow already- it’s kind of like a Selby or Closet Visit, but the mom version. I do sort of wish there were a little variety in this list though. Don’t get me wrong, I love food and mom/family lifestyle blogs as much as the next lady, but there are sooo many kinds of different blogs out there (and, I don’t know for sure, but it seems like the demographic of Hello Giggles might be a little younger than mommy-age, though I could be totally wrong!)
    Regardless, thanks for the recommendations!

Hi Julia! I totally agree with your comment about the Selby- I couldn’t think of what it reminded me of and that’s exactly what it is. As far as the second part of your comment, I tried to give a bit of variety (a lifestyle blog, an overall beautiful blog, a food blog, a DIY/inspiration/project blog.a Dad blog) and for this time around, these are simply 5 blogs I love. My role on this site is to give a bit of a “Mom’s perspective,” as the demographic here includes a little of everything! I plan on doing this again in a month or so and I will be sure to vary the list a lot more! :)
