Dress Me Like a CelebrityDress Me Like a Celebrity: Zoe SaldanaLauren Hummel

One of my favorite things about Zoe Saldana’s outfit is the fact that she was able to revamp a casual jeans and t-shirt look just by adding a blazer. The more I think about it, a blazer is pretty much one of the best ways to dress up any ensemble. The actress wore her black-cuffed blazer to a photo call at the Sundance Film Festival last week, adding a classy touch to a watercolor-inspired tee and dark wash denim. I found a comparable black blazer at Forever 21 for less than $30, but if your budget is a bit more flexible, H&M sells a sleek blazer with dragonfly print lining for $49.95.

While on the hunt for the perfect royal blue and white watercolor top, I ran into some trouble trying to find shirts that were of the same abstract print. But, I did locate this tie-dye tee with a similar color scheme from Gap for about $28. However, if that particular item is not your style, you’ve got nothing to worry about because it just so happens watercolor-ish tops are aplenty on the Internet. Well, I guess I should say at Forever 21 because I found these three styles on their website that feature a somewhat painterly quality. Moreover, they are all under $20, but keep in mind any patterned or printed tee will be stylish underneath a black blazer. I’m telling you, blazers are like magic.

This outfit could also very well be paired with skinny jeans, but I’m digging the wider leg. The jeans I chose are a classic boot cut from H&M, but there is nothing wrong with channeling the ’70s and getting your flare on. Go a step further and wear a platform heel from Endless to complement whichever style of denim you choose. Although Saldana’s Brian Atwood booties are emerald green, dark blue denim can essentially be worn with any color heel. The style I’ve selected comes in five different colors, but if a slightly shorter heel is desired, then I urge you to take a look at Urban Outfitters‘ version of the suede pump. It doesn’t come in green, but you can also choose from an assortment of different shades, and I have to be honest, this shoe is one of my absolute favorites. It’s simply a versatile pump that works well with jeans, dresses, jumpsuits—you name it. But I’d better move on to the final item before I get carried away with professing my love for a shoe.

As pictured, Saldana appears to be wearing a dark shade of nail polish, however, instead of opting to wear more black with your outfit, perhaps try donning a deep purple like Essie’s Velvet Voyage. The color can be found at Walgreens and most likely a whole bunch of other drugstores for $8. Additionally, it’s a nice change-up from the same old black.

Saldana definitely has the right idea when it comes to refining a relaxed look, and even if you switched the top or swapped the heels for ballet flats, you would still be just as fashionable. I know I’ll be wearing a variation of this outfit in the future, but I want to know your thoughts on it. Any extra tips for substituting pieces are always welcome, too!
