Earlier this month, Minka Kelly was spotted wearing this blouse and jeans combo while out and about, and it’s making me wish spring would arrive sooner, so I could wear something like it. Although sheer, silky blouses have been popular for the past couple of seasons, they still seem to be on trend, and Kelly’s beige button-up is a perfect transitional piece from winter to warmer weather. This chiffon blouse from H&M is only $9.95 and can be styled with both jeans and dress pants. Other top options include this V-neck blouse from Macy’s, this woven pocket shirt from Forever 21 and this blouse from Old Navy for only $16.
Kelly keeps it casual with her denim choice, opting to wear a pair of medium wash jeans with her cuffed top. I chose these jeans from American Eagle as an alternative, which are not only on sale for $30 but also the right pair of jeans to wear with a thick leather belt. Speaking of belts, AE also sells this wide leather belt with a brass buckle for just under $25, but a more detailed version can be found on Gap’s website for the same price. In any case, I think it’s best to stick with brown leather for this look, as it adds to the outfit’s daytime appeal.
The actress’ shoes are difficult to see in the picture, but she appears to be wearing a sandal wedge or platform of some sort, and this tan pair from Zappos is a cute and versatile substitute for a price of just $45. In addition, Zappos sells another style of platform sandals for about $50, but both are equally chic options.
As for the finishing touches, Kelly accentuates her casual but classy ensemble with shades of gold and red. Her bangles are accessories that can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe, and if you’re not an avid wearer of jewelry but would like to start, they are also great introductory pieces. Look to Forever 21’s website to buy a set for only $5.80. For Kelly’s sunnies, I’m a fan of these tortoise shell cat eyes from Urban Outfitters. (Yes, they are the same style as last week’s pick, but like I said, I can’t get enough of them.) The final item of this look happens to be a bright red nail polish, so I’ve chosen one of my all time favorite nail colors, The Thrill of Brazil by OPI, as my pick for the outfit’s pop of color. A bottle is sold on beautystoredepot.com for $8.50 but can probably be found at most local drug/beauty stores, too.
Overall, Kelly was able to achieve a look that transcends the winter season, and now I know she’s a celebrity whose style is one to watch. I hope my substitutes for her outfit are to your liking, but if you have any suggestions of your own, you know what to do. I didn’t include a version of Kelly’s purse, so I would also love to read about any alternatives you would have chosen. Have the perfect tote bag in mind? Let me know!
