These diverse women playing sports to Maya Angelou's poetry show why fitness can be so empowering

Poetry has provided many of us with inspiration, motivation, and empowerment — but it doesn’t often go hand-in-hand with physical fitness. A 90-second video created by the “This Girl Can” campaign has totally changed that, and you need to watch this group of amazing women exercising to a Maya Angelou poem.

The “This Girl Can” initiative aims to “inspire women to wiggle, jiggle, move and prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.”

Its latest video depicts women of all ages, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds killing it at a wide variety of sports while a recording of Angelou reciting her poem “Phenomenal Woman” plays in the background.

We’re not crying — you are.

Between these strong, dedicated athletes and Angelou’s inspirational words, it’s impossible to not feel motivated to hit the gym or get back into our old favorite sport.

Exercise isn’t about weight loss or attaining the “perfect body.” It’s about endurance, strength, and empowerment — and this beautiful video conveys that message perfectly.
