We’re always crushing on Demi Lovato — the person and her music. Now, we have yet another reason to love her. Demi Lovato revealed who her new breakup song’s about, and we definitely didn’t see this coming. You’d think it would be her ex Wilmer Valderamma, or perhaps her ex Joe Jonas — but you’d be wrong.

Of course, the song we’re talking about is “You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore,” aka the latest single from Lovato’s new album, Tell Me You Love Me, out September 29th. You may remember that Lovato took a break from the spotlight for a while, and we are SO glad she’s back.

“You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore” is a deep, melodic song with lyrics that include:

“I see the future without you

The hell was I doing in the past?

Now that I’ve learned all about you

A love just like ours wouldn’t last

I won’t fall for your games

So don’t hate me if I say

You don’t do it for me anymore.”

Although “You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore” definitely sounds like it could be about an ex, that’s not the case.

How do we know? Social media, of course. A Demi Lovato Instagram fan account posted a screenshot of a tweet explaining a theory: The song could be about Demi’s old self. Lovato herself commented on the photo, confirming the suspicion.

Hey @ddlovato 🤔

If you scroll to the very top, you can see Lovato’s comment.

“Well done,” she wrote with a simple clap emoji. “It is.”

As we said before, we’re always crushing on Lovato — and now we are even more so. We love that “You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore” is about leaving the old Demi in the past. Plus, we can definitely relate. After all, everyone has parts of themselves they’d rather leave behind, right?

Of course, if you want “You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore” to be about an ex, by all means, you have our blessing. All we know is, Lovato ~does~ do it for us, so we’re going to go back to listening to the song now on repeat.
