I hate to admit it, but I’m finally an adult. I used to think adulthood meant changing your Brita filter on time, using a coaster (on purpose) and knowing how to check your bank account balance online. While all of these things are important, there is a lot more that goes into being an adult. For starters, there is no such thing as “Summer Vacation”. Remember drinking margaritas on the beach on those annual trips to Cabo with your girlfriends? That’s just not going to happen for you anymore. There is this thing called “work” and as unfair as it is, you don’t get a 3 month break to work on your tan and social calendar. It’s super depressing, I know. But I have never been one to wallow in self-pity (please don’t confirm that), so I am here to teach you how to make your summer in adulthood as pleasant as humanly possible.
I’m a huge fan of this thing called the Internet. It makes life super easy, you know? I’m an even bigger fan of the newly redesigned Bing search engine, which brings the best of social networks like Facebook and Twitter right into your search. New? What?! Change?! Stop freaking out… change can be good. I will be using the new Bing social search features to show you some ideas on how to make your summer awesome, even if Cabo isn’t on your calendar.
Idea #1: Throw a Bachelorette Party! So we’re already a few weeks into ABC’s The Bachelorette, but it’s just starting to get good! Shows like The Bachelorette are designed to watch in big groups, right? So get a group of girlfriends together, and get your drink on.
Don’t know who to invite? Just go to Bing and do a search for “The Bachelorette” and you’ll be able to see which of your Facebook friends have ‘liked’ the show or posted related pictures. From Bing you can choose to share your search and tag your Facebook friends to ask if they’re going to join you on #TeamArrie or not!
Don’t know what to drink? Try this amazing drink recipe and cheers to the summer! (Bing Search: “Beer Margarita” gives you the recipe (and reviews!) right within the search page. Drinking has never been so easy.)
“Beer Margarita” Ingredients
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate
- 12 fluid ounces tequila
- 12 fluid ounces water
- 12 fluid ounces beer
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
Are you into drinking games? ME TOO! Drink every time a bachelor tells Emily she is beautiful. (LIKE SHE DOESN’T KNOW!)
Idea #2: Breaking Bad marathon! If you’re not on the Breaking Bad band wagon, it’s not too late to jump on. There is a loophole is the working world system called “Sick Days”. Typically these days are used for when you’re physically ill, but I have a pretty great immune system and will be using them to catch up on my favorite television show ever.
Bing also makes it super easy to stalk Aaron Paul.
Idea #3: Movie Night! To me, there is nothing more exciting that going to the movies. There are SO many movies I’m excited about seeing this summer… Safety Not Guaranteed, Lola Versus, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, and of course, The Avengers. Before seeing a movie, I typically like to ask around and see if it’s worth the $13.50 plus $3 in parking. (Los Angeles is so expensive, you guys). Bing makes this super easy for me!
I just searched for “The Avengers” on Bing and from the search results page I can see relevant websites, and view the trailer, read a synopsis, see who’s in the cast, ratings and more. In addition, the social column on the right-hand side lets me share my search and ask all my Facebook friends if they liked the movie!
I know that these ideas are no comparison to a trip to Cabo, but hopefully Bing and I have helped make your summer a little more exciting. Let me know how you will be spending your grown up summer!
