Bing Search Of The Week: 90's Nostalgia
Tatti Ribeiro

I love the 90′s. I was born in 1990 and even though I only have like 2 years of actual memories from the 90′s it resonates as my favorite time. I love the movies, I love the music, I love the clothing, I love Nickelodeon, I love Disney Channel Original Movies, I love Kenan, I love Kel… I LOVE ORANGE SODA (I do, I do, I do-ooo). Do you get it?!

Remember this?!

The only problem with being this into something that’s not presently happening is that IT’S NOT PRESENTLY HAPPENING. I can’t just turn on the TV and watch Zenon, I have to actively search this stuff to re-watch it, or to know what’s up with Tia and Tamera (it’s a lot you guys…). I guess this is where being in the 2000′s is kind of cool. We have the internet and it’s awesome.

I want to show you guys how you can get down with the 90s in like, under 20 minutes. To find and listen to your old favorite songs, see what’s happening with all your old crushes, and most importantly to see which of your friends you should keep (…the ones who are on board with your nostalgia) and the ones you should un-friend (…those who are not on board with your nostalgia).

There are a lot of different search engines out there and, to be completely honest with you, sometimes it’s hard to  choose which one to use. Except now, with the newly redesigned Bing, search is now social. Only Bing brings together the best search with the best people from your social networks, like Facebook and Twitter, which makes it even better to search for super-important things like Clarissa Explains it All, Ace of Base and Johnny Tsunami.

Get back to the 90′s starting here yo!

Part One: Music

All you really need is some Missy (Elliot, obviously) & Timbaland! Get it, find all the old stuff. It’s amazing.

Once you’re through with them you can move onto some Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, and Busta Rhymes….I could make the list go on and on but I won’t get crazy.

THESE OUTFITS!

I mean? These are like, the most important people of the 90′s in one picture.

Sometimes it’s hard to find the old music videos or see what all of these IDOLS are doing now. But Bing makes it easy.

Let’s talk about my Bing search for Busta – didn’t know he was on the Twitter game, now I do, and now I follow him. He tweets pictures like this that make me explode with excitement that some new Busta is coming!

A picture from BUSTA RHYMES Twitter of BUSTA RHYMES feet in the studio

Bing gives me all I need: Now I know his history, I know what he looks like in 2012, and most importantly I know which of my friends have any SANITY. Not only do I get the real (like, factual) information on Busta, but I also get personalized information (like my friend Kevin is also a HUGE fan!) from my social networks in the right column. Doesn’t get better.

I would show you every artist I searched like this but I got a little crazy and there aren’t enough hours in the day. Busta is just the tip of the ice berg.

Fine! I’ll show you one more – my Backstreet Boys search:

Nick Carter is tweeting! AJ McLean is tweeting! They’re all so connected you guys! All of the music videos that pop up make me SO excited. We know they’re having a comeback so let’s just all get re-familiar with them, okay? And since I know which of my friends are into BSB like me, I know who to invite to my next Backstreet’s Back party (who doesn’t love a good theme party?).

Part Two: Television

90′s Television is the best. Period. The last two shows I watched from start to finish were The Wonder Years and Freaks and Geeks.

The Wonder Years. Literally the best show. It just gets it right EVERY TIME. People forget it was a late 80′s early 90′s show because it was set in the 60′s BUT REMEMBER PEOPLE this was the 90′s! Kevin and Winnie are too much. I cry in the first 10 seconds of the opening credits when “With A Little Help From My Friends” comes on. I dare you not to get emotional.

Want to know what I learned from my search? In order of importance:

  • Winnie Tweets! The best news ever.
  • I can watch it on Netflix Instant Watch.
  • Where to download the theme song.
  • The series opening.
  • Tons of video of the best moments of all the seasons.

Did you know Winnie herself, Danica McKellar, writes math books now? So smart. I also learned that I have a few friends who feel as passionate about Kevin Arnold as I do. Maybe I should ask them about their favorite character? Maybe older brother Wayne or best friend Paul? Tough decisions.

Freaks and Geeks. Another one of the best shows, ever. Everyone who worked on that show (actors, directors, producers…) have all gone on to do some of the coolest stuff! Amazing to check back in. Bing showed me how many of my friends love the show too. Makes me question the 700 other friends I have who don’t ‘like’ this show on Facebook, it’s like, why not? Ya know?

Part Three: Movies

So, so, so many good movies to come out in the 90′s. One of the greatest movies of this decade, and of any decade was of course Forrest Gump. I cannot believe this came out in 1994. That is crazy yo! I was 4 years old. If I didn’t watch it right when it came out I know I at least saw it within the 90′s.

Better than seeing which friends of mine like Forrest Gump (it should be all of them) is the list that comes up in the middle bar that talks about WHERE I CAN WATCH THIS. Hello, this is what I need to know. Is it on Netflix Instant watch? Can I watch my favorite scenes online somewhere? Bing lets you know!

If you aren’t on Bing right now searching everything 90′s I really don’t know what you’re doing with your time. Clearly not managing it properly. Just doing the searches for this post inspired 30 more. I cannot get enough. I now know where to watch all my old favorite shows, which friends I can talk to about them, and what all my old pop idols, rap idols, and Disney Channel stars are doing now.

Get it together y’all and start Bing’ing NOW!

  1. I was born in ’87 and I pretty much consider myself a 90s child. :) Jonathan Taylor Thomas (JTT) was the first boy on my wall. TGIF was a time spot on Friday nights when they played some awesome sitcoms. Oh and I was destined to marry Nick Carter (along with thousands of other girls). :)

  2. I was born in 1991.

  3. *self… Apparently I was a little excited about Backstreet there…

  4. Amazing. The 80s were awesome. 90s were great… I love that you love BSB. They are making a come back and I feel my middle school selt LOVING it.

  5. All I have to say to this is Zoom! Zoom! Zoom!

  6. I was born in 1983, so I remember the 90s vividly. It’s my favorite music period, because I literally remember listening to certain songs at certain moments of my life. My youngest sisters were born in 1992 and 1995, so I am the one they ask about things that in the 90s.

  7. I love 90′s everything!!!! (I was born in 1993 ;)

  8. You were 4 in 1994?! OMG, I feel SOOO old now. I still think of the 90s when someone says, “10 years ago,” instead of 2002!

  9. I honestly stopped using Bing a loong time ago. BUT this feature is AMAZEBALLS for 90s lovers or for fans of whatever. I loved the BSB search btw :) I’ll def start Bing’ing more often and thanks for sharing (even if it was courtesy of Bing)!
