— What The What

Ashley Graham says guys have broken up with her for this totally unacceptable reason

Everyone endures ups and downs in their relationships, but some “downs” can be pretty low. And we just heard that supermodel Ashley Graham had boyfriends break up with her for a particularly insane reason.

In an interview with People.com at the Urban Arts Partnership 25th Anniversary event, she spoke about how she can 100% relate to women who feel a sense of shame because of their weight.

“I’ve lived exactly what they’re living. I’ve lived the torment of the names. I’ve lived the torment of boyfriends breaking up with me because they were afraid I was going to be too fat later in life.”

Wait, what? Boyfriends who broke things off over what her weight may or may not be at some random future point? UGH! We can not even begin to vocalize how bizarre and judgmental we find that rational, but we do know one thing for sure: It was clearly THEIR LOSS.

She goes on to note that the cycle of body shaming continues no matter how old we get, but she tries her hardest not to let it get the better of her.

“I wake up sometimes and I think ‘I’m the fattest woman alive,’ she admitted. “But it’s really about how you handle it when you wake up. I look in the mirror and I have my affirmations. And mine are simple.”

“[I say] ‘You are bold. You are brilliant and you are beautiful.’ And then if my lower pooch is really puffing out that day, I say ‘Lower pooch you are cute.’ And we have a moment. And if the hips are really popping I say ‘I love you too hips.’”

So much yes to this, and so much respect for such a positive attitude. We love that Graham admits that she doesn’t wake up feeling like a million bucks every single day, because it reminds us that self-love is a process, and it’s totally okay if you’re still working on it.

Oh, and remember how Ashley Graham was on the cover of Vogue? Yeah, she’s killing it.

Keep doing your thing and inspiring us to have faith in ourselves, Ashley!
