Open Letters An Open Letter to The Muppets Annie Stamell

Dear Muppets,

I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you.

Muppets are funny and silly and clever and smart and bring joy and giggles and wonderment and teach lessons and when they fall down and get into hijinks and make songs and yell at the top of their lungs they bring even more laughs and happiness and sometimes I cry so hard from all the laughter but it is with tears of joy so that’s okay!

Muppets have the ability to make me feel like I am ten again, when I am actually ten plus ten plus a number more than five but less than ten. Muppets come in all shapes and sizes and forms and some are vermin and some are Swedish and some are green frogs with self-esteem issues and others are ambiguously gendered which is totally so post-modern and some of the others wear tiny hats while some of them wear huge hats and one of them is an extremely amorous pig and another is a terrible drum player but I still want to hug each and every one of them!

Sometimes real people sort of look like Muppets and when they do I just want to hug them, too. (Sorry about that, Mr. Crazy and Maybe Homeless Man who hangs out in front of the Dollar Store in Venice Beach – I’ll adhere to your no touching rule going forward, I promise. You just look so much like Sam the Eagle with that lustrous unibrow and hard-working scowl!)

I am so very excited for your new movie and your accompanying compilation of musical tracks called Muppets: The Green Album (I see what you did there and you are clever, you Muppet marketers! I know why they pay you the big bucks!) and you better believe I’m going to go opening night where I will look just as wide-eyed and awed as the other children and grown-up children around me. That’s the best part about you, Muppets – everyone can love you and everyone does!

My love for you is extended to all Muppets, to those of you who live at Sesame Street, those who call their home Fraggle Rock and definitely those of you who were Muppet babies and were animated and still no one ever knew what Beaker wass saying!  I especially loved you when you performed one of my favorite LCD Soundsystem jams in an impressive show of your vast understanding of today’s popular culture. My goodness you are a smart and talented bunch! Even Miss Piggy!

I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you.

Warm regards,

Stamos

  1. This totally cheered me up today. My family has a nerdy tradition of watching the Muppet Christmas Carol and singing along to all the songs. Yes Dad and brother included!

  2. my favorite website just posted about my favorite thing in the world. my day = made!

  3. My Husband and I were lucky enough to catch a free screening of the new movie and it’s everything you want and more!

  4. When Kermit teamed up with Linda Ronstadt my heart exploded into a million smiles. And the Kermit/Miss Piggy cover of “She Drives Me Crazy” is to die for. Ugh, I love this whole thing. LOVE.

  5. Completely agree! I think all of my Twitter and Facebook friends are getting sick of my updates on the new Muppet film/Green Album/links to trailers. There just aren’t enough people that appreciate Muppet-culture these days.

PS – Does anyone remember The Muppets Take Manhattan? Favorite line of all time, “New York, the Frog is STAYING!”

  6. I LOVE this! Sometimes people DO look like Muppets and I always want to hug them and thank them! I miss the days of Muppet Babies- but, being ten plus ten plus some more that is less than ten, I think the NEW Muppet movie is the perfect addition to the genius Muppet collection. (Thank you Jason Segal!) All this Muppet madness has really inspired me to pop some popcorn, grab some willing (or unwilling) friends and re-watch MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND!!!

  7. Hear hear!

  8. AGREED!
