Last week, I was sitting on my living room floor as three cats pawed at and rubbed against me. That’s right: it took me less than a year after graduating college to turn into a bona fide cat lady. Except that I have some semblance of a social life when I manage to pull myself away from cat memes, but still –it’s gotten pretty bad.
Between the two of us, my girlfriend and I are the adoptive mothers of Romeo, Juju and Madison (also known as Foxface for her stealthy ways). And it looks like we’re not alone – a host of celebrities are proud cat parents.
Here are 8 of my favorite felines and the famous human owners who love them, because sometimes it helps to know that celebs are just as crazy over their cats as I am. Meow.
Choupette and Karl Lagerfeld
When Karl Lagerfeld (aka Chanel maven) tweeted a photo of his new kitten back in January, I almost died from cuteness in my desk chair. Choupette is undeniably squeal-worthy –her deep blue eyes only seal the deal! As for Karl, he’s proven that he does have a soft side under those dark black sunglasses and leather gloves.
Jinxy & Peaches and Jason Wu
Jason Wu has worked his way to the top of my list of favorite designers, but I might be a bit biased. With cats Jinxy and Peaches, how could I not be? In a Fashionista interview, Wu said these friendly felines are “are the loves of my life!” Oh, and the duo also played a part in inspiring the designer’s recent Target collaboration –which featured cats, of course!
Meredith and Taylor Swift
Back in November 2011, the blogosphere was abuzz with news of Taylor Swift’s Scottish Fold kitten. And one look at this fluff ball explains it all! Plus, it looks like Taylor and her sweet kitty are pretty darn cute together. The starlet tweeted “Watching TV with my cat while eating Toy Story fruit snacks. So basically I’m 80 and 5 at the same time.” I know that feeling all too well, Taylor.
Then came this video in March, just in time for the Academy of Country Music Awards, for which Taylor was nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Video of the Year.
She adorably explains the awards show to Meredith and tells the kitten to vote for her (FYI: it totally worked).
Moke and Ian Somerhalder
Okay, so most of us really don’t need another reason to love The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder. But they just keep coming anyway. Ian, who runs a foundation which works in part to end animal cruelty, is also the proud owner of three adorable cats. The diverse trio’s members hail from Hawaii, New York, and Canada. You’re looking at Moke, my personal favorite, who also has an unofficial Twitter page here. And I thought creating a Facebook page for my own cat was pushing it…
Sammy & Zelda and James Franco
We all know that James Franco is busy being an actor, student, author and astronaut (maybe not that last one, but you get my point). But what many of us don’t know is that he also manages to find time to care for two cats. The cuties’ names are Sammy and Zelda, after famous literary icons.
“Sammy’s named after Sammy Glick from [Budd Schulberg's] What Makes Sammy Run, and Zelda is named after Zelda Fitzgerald,” he told PeoplePets.com.
You have to admit that these names are fitting…we’re talking James Franco, after all.
Kitty Purry and Katy Perry
Kitty Purry is almost as well-known as her celebrity momma, Katy Perry. She boasts her own blog, a Teen Choice Award nomination for Best Celebrity pet and a cameo in the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ video. I’m willing to bet that a full meow mix is next for this little diva.
I know these cats are darling, but they’re not the only cuties out there! Who are your favorite famous (or not so famous) kitties? Bonus points for photos.
