Dress Me Like a Celebrity A Case for Rompers and Jumpsuits
Lauren Hummel

Several years ago, if you had asked me when was the last time I wore a romper, I probably would have said, “Wait, what’s a romper again?” But after putting my Internet skills to good use and researching the heck out of rompers, I decided that I really wanted to buy one. However, my newfound interest in these magical one-piece outfits sparked a series of mini personal dilemmas, as well. I became worried that if I bought one online, I would regretfully discover the derrière area was too baggy or that I looked like a giant toddler instead of fashion forward. So in order to ease my concerns, I decided to act like a normal person and head to the mall to try on a few styles, and lo and behold, it affirmed my love for rompers.

Incidentally, I do admit that some rompers aren’t the most flattering items, which is why I strongly recommend trying them on before purchasing, but I took my time with searching, and the romper I eventually bought fit like a dream. Plus, I discovered the styling possibilities were endless. I could wear it alone, layer it with a lace or crop top, pair it with a blazer, or wear it with an awesome belt. You name it! I was sold. I also felt strongly compelled to buy about 800 more, but I soon realized people might think that was strange or something, so I settled for the dark green number I tried on that day.

Unfortunately, I think rompers, in addition to jumpsuits (which are essentially rompers with longer pant legs), tend to get a bad rap, so I’ve selected some chic and affordable styles inspired by the looks of four celebrities who truly appreciate the wonders of the one-piece garment. If you happen to still be on the fence about wearing a look you probably wore as a child, just know that rompers and jumpsuits are perfect items for summer (and music festivals), especially if you’re interested in finding fashion that’s effortless but still stylish, as well as an amazing canvas for sporting your best statement accessories.

Rompers and jumpsuits are also some of the most versatile pieces you can own. For example, terry cloth rompers make for great swimsuit cover-ups as well as casual day wear, black jumpsuits are ideal for running errands around town and nights out, and better yet, both styles cater to a variety of body types. The biggest task is deciding which type of romper and/or jumpsuit you like most. So without further ado, here are my picks for these spring and summer fashion favorites.

Casual rompers:

Dressy rompers:

(Style tip: Try pairing these rompers with a white blazer and metallic clutch.)

Black jumpsuits:

(Style tip: Complement your black jumpsuit with bright and bold items, such as a neon belt or colorful platform heels.)

Patterned jumpsuits:

  1. Perfect for summer festivals, not unless you want to get naked in a port a potty!

    • Exactly, a friend of mine bought rompers for going away to a festival. It wasn’t until she needed to pee she realised the flaw! All she had were rompers with her, so she was stuck like that each day. And drinking alcohol didn’t help her at all!

  2. I quite fancy rompers. Been wearing the few I have in my closet for years now. The only issue I have is going to the bathroom. Rompers can get tricky when needing to do your business lol

  3. Itd be great if they had pee holes. That is my only reason for not jumping on the bandwagon! Definitely not an all day outfit for me
