5 Ways to Hang On to Those Summer Days HelloGiggles Team

Let’s face it – summer is gone. Officially. Pumpkins and sweaters are fine and well, but what about those of us who aren’t ready to let go of tank tops and beach days? Those of us who relish 9pm sunsets and peeling our sunburn? We need love, too! If you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to the warm season, you don’t have to – well, not really, anyway. Here are five things you can do to hang on to summer:

1. Make a summer cocktail

One of the best parts of summer – if you’re of age, that is – is alcohol. More particularly, cocktails. Whether it’s brunch or a back yard BBQ, fruity alcoholic drinks are refreshing and super tasty. One of my favourites is the Fizzberry Crush. Never heard of it? I’m about to change your life. Terlato Wines has a sparkling red wine called Fizz 56, made of 100% Italian Brachetto, which goes really well with all kinds of fruity liqueurs and is an awesome (and tasty) cocktail base. If you want to make a Fizzberry Crush, now you can!

Fizzberry Crush

  • 4 parts Fizz 56
  • 4 parts gin
  • 4 parts strawberry puree
  • 2 parts strawberry liqueur
  • 1 part lemon juice

Shake it all up with ice, then pour over crushed ice and garnish with a lemon or strawberry. I promise you’ll feel like it’s mid-July all over again.

2. Listen to some serious summer jams

You know the songs I mean – those perfect pop tracks that just scream summer. Feel free to pick your poison on this one, and make yourself an iTunes playlist to blast out. You can include Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry, Rihanna… the options are literally endless. All that matters is that when you put it on, you feel a warm breeze through your hair and feel like you need your sunglasses to protect your eyes from the simmering sunshine. Hint: ‘Teenage Dream’, despite being released years ago, is always on this list, from here until eternity.

3. Shop for next summer’s wardrobe

Because I’m a cheapskate, I love a good bargain. In addition to making you feel like summer’s still here, shopping for what you’ll wear next year is a double whammy, since you’re sure to get some off-season deals as the last of this year’s stock is cleared out. Grab your bathing suits, your short shorts, whatever tickles your fancy from your favourite retailer. After all, there are only nine months until you’ll need them again!

4. Look at your summer vacation pictures

I know this one might seem sort of depressing, but it doesn’t have to be! Staying in touch with our favourite summer memories keeps them fresh in our minds and looking forward to making new ones next time, too. If you didn’t get to go anywhere this year, throw together a Pinterest board of some great beach shots or other images that invoke the summer feeling for you.

5. Cross the equator

This might not be doable for everyone, but if you can manage it, why not switch hemispheres? Did you know that as you’re unpacking your winter clothes from storage, people in Australia are preparing for beach season? They go to the beach on Christmas. I’m not kidding. If you just can’t get enough of hot weather, head down under and you can have summer year round.
