If you’re a writer or an internet guru like I am, you probably know about the big event that began this week – NaNoWriMo! What!? You’ve never heard of it? NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, is a project that starts every year on November 1st and ends on November 30th. Professional writers and novices alike (I’m definitely a novice!) attempt to write a full 50,000 word novel – IN ONE MONTH. Sounds crazy, right? Who would put themselves through that!?! Well, think again. Week one is almost over, and the total word count of all participants across the globe is already over 420,000,000! That’s a lot of people writing lots of words! Still not convinced? Here are five reasons why you should consider participating in NaNoWriMo this year…
It CAN be done.
The recommended daily word count is 1,667 words, which isn’t too bad! Just writing a little here and there throughout the day should be enough.
Reaching for, and completing the word count goal each day feels pretty great, and it gives you a big confidence boost too!
You can write with friends!
On the NaNoWriMo site, you can become “buddies” with your friends and track their novel writing progress! Or if you’re anything like my big sister and I, you can try beating each other’s word counts every day and turn it into a competition! (I’m currently beating her. Mwa ha ha.)
There are prizes!
At the end of NaNoWriMo, everyone who succeeds in writing their full 50,000 word novel get’s a printable award certificate! There’s many other prizes given out too.
If you’re a teen like me who is convinced she has more time on her hands than she actually does, or anyone who thinks they could enjoy writing, give it a go! You may just discover that you’re super awesome at it.
Lots of Love, Grace.
